Courtyard Houston-West University
It's a very good hotel. It's located near the highway but the street is very quiet. The room was nice and clean. They charge $10 for parking. The hotel's proximity to downtown Houston and its museums is a big plus.
Great location with reasonable prices
Great location that is close enough to the NRG stadium where you're not having to pay the higher prices closer to the Stadium. It is only 4 miles away write down Kerbey Lane so it's easy access if you're going there. There are a lot of restaurants close by. They have a bistro, a swimming pool and very comfortable rooms with very friendly staff. The rooms are fully equipped with everything that you need and a nice comfortable sofa to sit and relax without having to sit on the bed and a large TV that can be seen from all areas of the room.
Saved the day
I would like to recommend Ryan for Marriott employee of the year! He was gracious, kind, caring and accommodating. After a terrible ordeal at the Residence Inn West University that almost ruined our family's Thanksgiving vacation, Ryan listened attentively and was so understanding and helpful. He handled a difficult situation with gracious service and respect.
Sleeping with Cockroaches
The week of November 11, 2019 I was staying at the courtyard for a business trip. The second night during my stay I discovered a cockroach in my room. I was able to move rooms, however there was no manager working that night or the next morning, so I had to wait to talk to someone until later the next day. When I finally spoke with the manager I was appalled. I was offered 5,000 points for the inconvenience, which I thought was low after staying at this hotel for a few weeks and being Titanium Platinum. After asking for higher compensation, the manager asked me to explain what my grievances were with having a cockroach in my room! They were then surprised that I’ve never encountered a cockroach at any other hotel stay. While they may feel it’s acceptable and common for this hotel to have cockroaches around, I do not. I also understand the limits with which they can compensate a guest, but bullying me to try and take a lowball compensation is not ok. No customer should be treated this way. I was also surprised with this manager’s reaction considering how friendly the rest of the staff are at this hotel.
To be avoided
This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in the last 25 years supporting Marriot Brand. My Titanium Elite Status was not recognized at all. Regrettably I have stayed in this staggering place for two weeks but never again. - Room was not regularly cleaned - One could not communicate in English with hard working room cleaning ladies - Toilet was either blocked, not flushing or had a wobbly seat - Aircon unit in the room worked like a combine preventing sleep and any rest, so I had to keep it switched off - Very low water pressure - Slow Wi-Fi - Small yellow ants in the room - Lift/elevator kept breaking down - GYM was filthy and is located in a tiny room. Could not really have more than 2 people in it. . Otherwise it was hugely overcrowded. In addition exposed live electric wires. Equipment dripping with peoples sweat. - Two ancient computer work station in the lobby, still with Windows 7. If more than one browser open the whole system hung up - Access to the pool restricted by elaborate system of locks and metal fence - Whirlpool water dirty and smelly of chemicals. After initial use I had nasty smell on my body for several days - Shuttle service inconsistent. Several times I had to wait for over an hour for an afternoon/evening pick up from nearby Greenway Plaza - At check-out they have tried to overcharge me by several hundred dollars and could not provide standard invoice. This was really upsetting - Meals served in the coffee shop were tasteless ( I have overheard guests comments) - Price of wine from the bar in line with 5* restaurant prices!!!! I did not expect much as I was out working for two weeks and hoped the place would my home for duration of my stay. I was wrong. The only two people in my humble view showing enthusiasms and friendliness were the lady driving shuttle bus in the mornings and Desmond ( gentleman serving behind the bar)
