Beware...no security or cameras or management

We decided to drive to Houston to escape Hurricane Ida. Boy, I wish I booked another hotel for my family.
I'll start with the Positives since there isn't that many....
Anna the Breakfast Supervisor was great
Antwanisha and Brittney at the desk were great as well. My suggestion to management is train your FD Associates before you stick them at the desk solo. (I am a former FOM from Marriott. Only stopped to care for my sick mom)
3 bugs found in room 121. At first I was told to come back and speak to management about a rate change. Then I received a call saying we would get 50.00 off that night. That's fine.
Whenever I came to the desk in the afternoon, it was never manned. Like goodness, does management not care? I had to stand and wait....I even walked down the hall to find someone. (Her name was Julie or Julia. Not hospitalable at all. Not apologetic for having a guest wait)
The tipping point that made us drive back to Louisiana(which we can't even get home to yet) was our car was broken into. The camaro right beside us....all 4 tires stolen.
Antwanisha was very apologetic. When I came to confirm our early check out, I heard Antwanisha tell the GM In passing I was the guest whose car was broken into. She said I'll deal with it later.
Never got a call...a note from her, smoke signal, nothing from Jenny(I think that was the GM name)
Granted it's Pandemic time, and folks aren't working full time, our they are hiring, however some type of manager should be on property. If I come to Houston again, I DEFINITELY won't be staying here.
(Had to drive to Shreveport with a bag on My window)
Average, nice people, nothing bad, nothing great

Very bad breakfast. Frozen waffles, cereal, HORRIBLE coffee, it's flavored which I can't stand. Nice photo of a jacuzzi on the website but it is empty. Very low water pressure in the shower, we were on the first floor. For a place to sleep, it's OK.
In the Time of Covid-19

First off I will say that the room was very nice and the hotel in general was pleasant as well, including the man who staffed the front desk at the time.
I arrived thinking that I just needed to check in for my prepaid reservation after an overnight drive into town, and I was ready to collapse. There would be no turning back and during the pandemic, I strongly feel that the hotel could've been more sympathetic and not just tried to take every dollar they could.
I only found out at the time of booking a reservation in person (the third party website I originally used was not actually submitting my reservation; it was stuck in a pending stage) how much the pet fee was. I was told by the front desk that the fee would be $150 on top of the $50 deposit. But when I look at the website for Towneplace suites, the pet fee is only $100. I had actually tried to negotiate down from $150 to $100, since they don't offer any sort of military discount (they're all over the Covid-19 responders, yet seem to have no respect for our military). Funny that I was made to believe the fee was higher than it actually was, because there was no problem in taking $50 off that fee for me as a bargaining chip.
Now, a week later, I am just now being charged for the room plus all of the fees and they even kept my deposit. We did not damage the room, take anything we didn't come in with, nor did we cause any problems. I am a very mindful guest and great each place I stay as if it were my own-- and I take care of my own. This makes me feel not only that I was taken advantage of, but also that these people are greedy and dishonest. The pet fees were made to seen higher than was the case and I can look past that, my fault. But trying to keep my deposit for no good reason is what really pisses me off about greedy hotels; especially trying to keep the deposit of someone like myself, despite how considerate I am as a guest. Safe to say that I will never stay here again.

We had a nice time. The rooms was neat and clean. The employees was very courteous and kind. The breakfast was very good. It was quiet and peaceful. Great location. Close to alot of restaurants and stores.
Sorry; Last time I will ever stay here

I have stayed at this location several times on business trips due to its location (approximation to my work in Houston) and that I like the staff friendliness.
Unfortunately, the property has declined one time and Marriott is not addressing any of the issues.
On this particular visit, I will explain why I gave it only one star (my first ever, I believe):
1. First thing I noticed as I entered my room was the smell. It was the "humid/musty" smell that you get in a basement that hasn't been cared for
2. Bathroom fixtures: Had nicks and holes in the tub, as well as a toilet that "ran" incessantly
3. Air conditioning unit very loud
4. The "suite" bedroom did not have air conditioning at all, so I had to keep the door open. This was also because the "fan" that was placed in the wall to draw air into the bedroom was broken. So, the noise kept me up most of the night every time the air conditioner turned on.
5. And last straw: After staying the evening and getting up to take a shower the next morning, I moved the bathmat and found the largest ROACH I believe I have ever seen! After screaming (at 5 am) and running from the bathroom, I called the front desk. the poor front desk attendant had to come up to take care of the roach. Bless her heart...she was as grossed out as I was, but there she was-armed with a rag, something to hit it with, and some roach spray. She killed it, flushed it down my toilet and left.
And then...I took a quick shower (hating being in that bathroom the whole time) and got out of the room/hotel as fast as possible.
I insisted on a refund for my room, got one with an apology, and I will not return.
