Turtle's Inn, El Gouna

The trip was a long weekend to get away from Cairo. Unfortunately the weather was windy, with a lot of dust on the second day. Nevertheless we had a relaxing time, and the breakfast is great. Turtle's Inn is very comfortable and affordable place to stay.

Centrally located, pleasant stay.

I spent a few nights here at the end of my trip. My stay was a welcome respite from 'real' Egypt. It was slightly annoying that reception is not located at the hotel. This was not made clear on the booking site. Room (one of those two pictured on the first floor overlooking the bay) was ok. Quite small but adequate for just me. Wifi sucked, they don't have their own. Just generic El Gouna wifi. Wifi sucked everywhere in Egypt. Room was quite cold. This was January I might add. Everything was modern and there was original artwork painted on the wall. The floor was not clean (sandy mostly.) They needed to actually mopp it, instead of whatever they were doing. Reception staff (at Captain's Inn) were friendly and helpful. Though the level of English spoken was surprisingly bad. A simple point like 'Can someone empty the bin in my room' was hard to get across (they don't clean every day due to covid.) Another time I tried to reconfirm my airport taxi and the guy could not grasp what I was saying. There was one guy who spoke pretty well. I wasn't clear over the fact that the swimming pool is located at another hotel, a few mins walk away. Good Indian food at that other hotel. Real Indian in the kitchen. Breakfast (also not served at Turtle's Inn) was pretty good and varied. Breakfast staff were friendly and helpful. I came to El Gouna for the diving mostly. Turtle's Inn served it's purpose. Should I return, I may well stay here again.

Not as expected but adequate

In general the hotel was not as expected. The pictures were much nicer and much more exciting than the reality of it. It wasn't a terrible experience but I certainly wouldn't be too eager to repeat it again unless I have to. It was adequate but it can be much MUCH better with a few simple changes. I will try to break it down as much as possible. What works? 1. The location is really great, very close to a lot of shops, restaurant and cafes. A bit noisy especially near the weekends (if there are parties nearby) but if you close the window it's not too much of a problem 2. The staff in general are very friendly, professional and helpful. 3. Check in and checkout processes were quick and easy. No fuss. 4. The restaurant staff were very accommodating, we were late for breakfast several times and they always tried their best to help us out and serve us whatever they can. Very kind and friendly. What didn't work so well... 1. We stayed in one of the red rooms which did not look very good and didn't feel very calm and welcoming. The rooms are not very well designed, some things inside the room do not function as well as they should. There is also lot of unused space/ space used unwisely in the rooms. The storage space (especially in the bathroom) was close to non existent which was very problematic for a 6 night stay in a double room with girls (things got messy) 2. The ventilation of the room was really bad. At night, we weren't able to sleep with the window open as insects would enter the room (there are no shutters) and the AC was directed at the beds which made it way too cold even when set on 27 degrees and with two covers. This really disrupted our sleep. We were either suffocating or freezing. 3. Some of the pools we had access to were not very well kept and maintained. They seemed old and unclean. In desperate need of a renovation. They were also unserviced. We had to deliver food from a nearby restaurant because we wanted some snacks. 4. The breakfast buffet has scarce variety. We stayed for 6 days, we ate the same things for 6 days in a row, There is absolutely no variety. We also found out about the omelettes and crepes by chance because we asked. There was no indication that they exist otherwise.
