This pub/hotel is located off the beaten track in a special part of Kent surrounded by fields and miles of public footpaths. We only came for one night as a base for a tour of the Kent coast. We were greeted by staff and shown to our very well presented room and the access and fire escape routes explained to us, very professional. The whole interior of the pub has a good feel and lots of space leading out to a large garden and fields beyond. There was a variety of lagers and IPA with some unusual brands on offer which we tried, a good selection of wines. The menu provides good options, we tried the Lamb Rump and Skate Wing which based on our experience were exceptional, staff very attentive, we can’t wait to come back and bring some family and friends with us👋👋

In these strange and trying times it’s reassuring that you can visit a great pub in the fantastic Kent countryside and get a decent lunch, with a decent glass of wine.
My only gripe is the conservatory was a bit hot, in October I should have worn a t shirt, the ceiling fans could have been turned on a bit earlier. Tbh I didn’t notice them so I would have asked.
Food bob on, from starters through to dessert, service has definitely improved, since our last visit a year ago, even though it was busy. The bill isn’t an irritant either for the quality you get, the pastry on the pie is just the best, the toad is a quality sausage too, just a couple of the food highlights, I could go on.
We left content, some sort of normality had been restored, thank you.
lovely country pub with great atmosphere and comfy rooms

this is a favourite place of ours, whether for lunch in the garden in summer, great pub food or a cheeky night away from home. always nice people behind the bar, breakfast is good and rooms are v well-appointed and comfortable. a proper country pub with lots of style
Noisy room-poor veggie food

Spent the night in room MPW. Heard all the noise from the bar/restaurant till it closed around 11. Advised by staff that we should use ear plugs provided. Interesting food menu, but only 1 veggie main course-not vegan. Ordered veggie breakfast, egg/avo on toast and couldn't eat it as it all tasted of vinegar. Expected more for £130/night.

First thing is that the staff are really good. Friendly and helpful throughout our stay. That said though our stay overall was very disappointing.
Our room (MPW) was above the bar area and evidently had no soundproofing. We could clearly hear conversations taking place in the bar below our room which continued late into the evening until closing time.
The management are evidently aware of the issues as they offered ear plugs (!) when we were shown our room. These were uncomfortable and ineffective given the volume of noise.
The room is also overlooks the street , the windows were not double glazed so customers leaving the bar, overnight traffic & delivery vans were also clearly audible so it was hardly a restful stay.
The room next to ours ( Stein) seemed to have the same issues, so be aware before booking.
All in all not a great stay
