This place has the potential to be good...but falls short on so many levels. Their website makes it sound like an eco friendly luxury resort in a magical setting. What you get instead...A beach with so much trash you couldn’t possibly walk without shoes in either direction. There is no beach service for drinks or food, no cigar bar, no spa, no yoga which are all listed on their website as services to enjoy. The bikes for hotel guests to use are all broken, no working gears or working brakes...There is no atmosphere in the only restaurant. However, the food was decently prepared and the two restaurant employees we did see were very hard working and tried to make the best out of what they had to work with. We stayed in the nicest room which was comfortable but smelled of urine. We arrived after an almost 2 hr boat ride which could have been avoided if the staff had communicated that their were high winds the day we arrived, we would have opted to drive. We couldn’t lay on the beach at all due to the wind and the hotel has no outdoor areas to accommodate this issue. We expressed our concerns with management and they didn’t really seem concerned since we all had to prepay for our rooms. Finally, the hotel has recently changed ownership and management so I guess we fell victim to previous TA reviews that may have been true at one time? We decided to leave a day early and are so glad we did! Even though the hotel refused to refund us our $800 for the last night of our stay. Yes $800 a night...Don’t even get me started on them pushing the extra 250 pp for “all inclusive” what a scam, so glad we didn’t sign up for that! What could be great is so far from it. Choose wisely and go somewhere else.
Perfection in paradise

Mukan Resort is paradise, perfection in a resort. The location is remote and less-travelled, yet not too hard to get to. The resort itself is set in a nature reserve, so you’ve got beautiful, untouched, palm-fringed beach on one side and a gaping lagoon on the other, giving onto lush mangrove jungle. Bare-foot, sandy chic; fabulous rooms or individual private beach cabanas looking onto a beautiful, unspoilt beach and blue waters. Facilities include selection of board games, SUPs, kayaks, body-boards, masks and snorkels (the beach is safe and beautiful for swimming), a TRX set to use, yoga classes or mats to borrow - if you want to do your own workout overlooking the beach or lagoon, and bicycles to borrow. The food was served when we wanted it, and the menus were excellent, the standards of meals was absolutely first rate. This really was haute cuisine to the very hautest of standards.
Juan and Sonia, the resort’s managers, are friendly and extremely professional. Nothing was too much effort for them, and they made our stay an absolute delight. And that attitude percolates right through the entire staff. Not only did they fulfil our every need, they went way beyond and anticipated whatever we might want. On returning from an interesting, yet sweaty cycle to a remote village, they had already picked, cut and chilled some fresh coconuts for us, and greeted us with them. When we finished a kayak trip out to the reef to see the fishes and turtles, they were waiting for us on the beach with freshly made, iced fruit-smoothies. Also, it was lovely to have a pet dog in the resort - extremely friendly and very lovable - so nice to have such an adorable dog to play with.
Highly recommended, we will definitely return.

We spent 4 nights at Mukan looking to disconnect and restore ourselves. This resort is a small 10 room operation of a remarkable high standard given that it is in the middle of the jungle between the ocean and a lagoon, 40km south of Tulum on a (decent) dirt-road. Once you're there, Mukan is a place of quiet, rugged luxury-- it's not the Ritz Carlton, and that's the point! We stayed at a bungalow facing the beach: it was relatively small but practical, comfortable, very clean and done in good taste. The weather was perfect so we spent all of our time outdoors anyway. The service team at Mukan was super-friendly, accommodating, professional, generous, personable-- they're a happy bunch and it shows-- definitely made all the difference. Food was very good, of high quality overall, and they gladly tweaked every dish to our taste. The on-site masseuse was excellent: the best we've come across at a hotel anywhere. We found that room rates are pretty reasonable for such a unique place, so even if charges for food & extras are up there with NY or London at the end of our stay the expense remained a fair deal. A note on sargasso: there was little of it when we were there, and they cleaned what there was every morning. Winter season seems to be a safe bet in this regard.

My wife and I spent three nights of our honeymoon here and they couldn’t have been better. The setting is absolutely magical - so picturesque and well maintained. The food was some of the best we’ve encountered (perhaps ever), with rotating menus and clearly the freshest ingredients. And the staff was exceptional, helping us fully relax/unplug - with special shout-outs to: Barbara (who conducted free and restorative yoga classes each morning for us); Javier, Alejandro, and Alberto, among others, who provided exemplary food and drink services; and Juan, the owner, for helping to make our stay as smooth as possible. This is truly a special place and cannot recommend it enough!
One of the best vacations we've had!

After reviewing resorts in Tulum we decided on Mukan Resort, Mexico and it was one of the best vacations we’ve had! We have definitely pushed this trip to one of our top 3 trips we have taken around the world. The seclusion this resort had on the beach felt like we were living in the most exotic location in the world! We can not even begin to explain how wonderful the service was. After 6 days, we felt like family with Javier, Alejandro, Barbara, Alberto, Ever, and Juan & Sonya. Every single detail throughout our stay was perfect. From the cocktails on the beach, to the most amazing upscale dinners we’ve ever had. We truly felt like royalty by how we were treated. We didn't want a partying/drinking/dancing type of resort and Mukan was the right fit for us! One of our favorite things about this was the feeling of having the resort to ourselves! The beach and snorkeling was simply the best! We walked the beaches every day and rarely saw another person around. The waters are crystal clear and abundant with coral life. Dare we say this trip was better than our honeymoon to Moorea, French Polynesia on an over the water bungalow?! We would HIGHLY recommend Mukan Resort as a place for total relaxation, a splurge worthy trip for those looking for the romantic secluded beach vacation. We hope to make the trip back very soon!”
