Solid trying to be trendy hotel w/ good facilities at great location

Overall enjoyed a recent 1 night quick stay at the Canopy Jersey City. First stay at a Canopy property and overall enjoyed the concept - good in-room hard product (sheets, Nespresso, tolietries) and reasonably spacious, and the large comfortable lobby blended into the cafe was a good space to meet friends and grab a drink. Location right next to the Path, and in walking distance of much of what you'd want to get to in Jersey City is quite convenient. Some question marks for me though overall was the pricing (maybe like renting in Jersey City nowadays, don't expect much of a discount vs. Manhattan), probably exacerbated by the somewhat lesser services (& efficiencies for the hotel) vs. a standard Hilton/Marriott/Sheraton sort of property. Breakfast was also on the high side - our $30 credit couldn't cover 1 entree + 2 beverages (buffet was $26). Also, for a new property - our room between the toliet and the A/C was quite noisy; if staying longer would have had service look at.

The hotel is very expensive, but they are close to the public transportation to NYC. Breakfast is not included for even higher level membership, and it is very expensive for what they offer. Also even though this is very minor, the front end attendant didn't explain how the credit for the level of membership was offered or the extra points earned for the stay.

Start with the good: the staff are fantastically sweet, helpful and polite. Came across some really caring staff members, like the lady at front desk enquiring to ensure I got to call my son etc. Location is also fine, right by Grove street PATH. Bed was comfortable and clean. The so so: The bathroom was not cleaned to my standards. They did offer a reclean and even offered to move me (see what I mean about great staff) , but I was working and didn't have headspace so stayed where I was. They did not have an iron in the room but they brought me one, so that is a plus. All in all average experience. The staff needs a lot of love and recognition because they are superb!

What was good- easy check in with a woman who was highly professional. The hotel is brand new and has a chic vibe to it. Room was quiet and comfortable. I felt safe. Breakfast was good. Bad - I put “sweep” sign up on the door after I left for the day at 10:30am. I got back at 4pm room wasn’t clean. At 4:30pm I asked the front desk about it and they said they would call housekeeping. When I returned from dinner at 6pm the room wasn’t made up. Called front desk. They sent the manager of housekeeping to talk to me. He said several people called in sick and he could He said he could get someone now to clean the room and I told him it was too late. Terrible- I checked out and asked for a small courtesy reduction to my bill because the room wasn’t refreshed in a timely manner. The clerk got her manager, Scott, who did not treat me with the dignity and respect I deserve. This isn’t an inexpensive hotel. Instead of saying that he was sorry that happened he put into question if I put up the “sweep” sign and said that no one would have been able to clean my room at 4:30. In the end he provided the small courtesy discount. But what an ordeal. For me a place like this sets an expectation for service at this price point. And that’s why I gave it 2 stars.
