Perfect guest house for a stay in Kairouan

Avaliou em 22 de abril de 2019

We spent 2 nights in the Suite Zakia in April 2019 and everything was prefect and even more! The suite was stunning in the old traditional Tunisian style. The bed linens were fresh and clean and everything was there for a good night sleep. The suite was spacious enough and decorated with old style furniture. It was absolutely clean. The rest of the house is worth a visit in itself and spectacular. Breakfast was served on the rooftop terrace and everything was made fresh and delicious (especially the oranges, the best I've ever had). The lady even went to the market each morning to bring back fresh bread, croissants and donuts. There was definitely enough food for everyone and some more that we took for our day's walk around the city. The lady in charge, Madame Feten, is extremely friendly and welcoming and went beyond what we could expect from a guest house host. She even cooked a traditional Tunisian couscous when my kids told her they liked Tunisian food. Added bonus: she can speak English and French as well as Arabic. The location of the house couldn't be better: right in the heart of the old medina, a very short walk from the souk/market and the Great Mosque of Kairouan which you can actually see from the roof. Easy to find, parking space available too. Only one word: PERFECT

Authentic, old world Kairouan experience

Avaliou em 8 de abril de 2019

Great visit and we loved the place. BUT do know what you are getting into! If you are looking for an authentic, older home in the center of the Medina, with a friendly, personal (English speaking) manager and a lovely terrace and traditional breakfast, this is the place for you. But if are looking for a luxury property with room service and a spa, this is definitely not for you. The house is quirky and old, which is why it is a unique place to stay.

Magnificent welcome after a very long day

Avaliou em 24 de setembro de 2015

We arrived on the first day of El Ed, one of the 2 big Moslem holidays. The town was closed and deserted. We knocked at Dar Hassine and we're welcomed into a very quiet and beautiful space in the medina, just near the mosque. Though our family took the owner by surprise he provided us much needed tea and juice, a wonderful room in this historic old home and directions to see the mosque down the lane. As it was a holiday no restaurants were open so he cooked us a wonderful meal served at the family dining table. A perfect end to a long trip by train and car from Tozeur. Highly recommended.

Special, historical, but not very comfortable in winter

Avaliou em 11 de janeiro de 2015

This is a lovely B&B in a beautifully maintained historic house in the heart of the medina in Kairouan. The hosts are incredibly accommodating and welcoming, and made us feel right at home. The home-cooked dinner was splendid, as was breakfast. The common areas are full of traditional things, the blue and white courtyard is absolutely lovely and must be a refreshing place in summer. Our room was spacious and had high ceilings - making it impossible for the little gas heater to have any effect. I slept under a pile of heavy blankets, wore a jacket and scarf through dinner and breakfast, and froze while using the shared bathroom. This simply isn't a place to stay in winter. Given the level of discomfort in the cold, I found the price (100 Eur for two people) to be quite steep, especially compared to other traditional houses we stayed at in Tunisia.

A most special place

Avaliou em 23 de setembro de 2014

This very special B&B is located in a splendid old house that was almost a museum, within the medina and close to the Grand Mosque. It has only three rooms, and it is a special treat to sleep there. Very warm greeting. Free wifi is available, and rooms are air conditioned. Toilets and shower are shared, though. Two issues to know. Getting there is a bit labyrinthic. Dinner is available by request: it is an excellent berber meal prepared with fresh products and with several courses, but on the expensive side.
