Great price, area and comfort

This Hilton location is perfectly nestled in Power and Light district of KCMO. The price was fantastic, room was comfortable and clean, hospitality was very personable. We were even sent a text before and after our stay to ensure that we had everything we needed during our stay.
I do not understand the negative reviews.

This is a beautiful small hotel. I was shocked to learn that it was renovated 15 years ago. It felt like it had just been completed. Very true to the original building. Our room was as nice as any we have had in KC, including the Fairmont and the Raphael. It will probably now be our go to spot in KC. Drum Room is a nice little bar. Staff was courteous and room very clean. Lack of valet parking was a little annoying but the parking garage is only a few feet from the rear lobby. Across the street from the new B&B Theatre and their great jazz bar Johnies. Breakfast was mediocre.

To whom it may concern, I am writing this letter with a broken heart as I am always more than satisfied with my Hilton stay.
First let me say that choosing this hotel was on purpose and big for me and my mother. For us this stay represented us being allowed to lay our heads and experience the white gloved service my ancestors could not. Indeed THIS is an historically beautiful building.
However there were some unfortunate incidents that did not coincide with the almost $200 a night charge. First, my own pet peeve, about hotels who charge for the stay and then additionally charge for me (per day ) to park my vehicle. I feel it’s a gross overcharge and there’s another way you can do it. Add it to the hotel fee that way we don’t feel nickel and dimed. Don’t charge guest just outside people. We are all recovering from a pandemic and it is not up to me alone to personally bring businesses into the green. We must do it collectively and give each other a break. Especially when the hotel charges outsiders for events that are surrounding the hotel. On a night that a wedding took place I had to park across the street which was very inconvenient for my mom who is disabled and wanted to help bring our items to the hotel.
OK onto the REAL issues. There is a certain prestige that I feel comes along with the Hilton brand and it was NOT apparent on our stay.
We were in Kansas City for the very first time to attend my sisters wedding and I was super excited for my mom and I to a stay right in the heart of everything. (The best part of my stay was location).
Let’s begin with the elevator ride. Keeping in mind the historic integrity of the building I LOVED the way the elevator felt and looked. Although it was small, it fit the era of the building. Now THIS is why we’re here. However, I did not appreciate the way the mechanics worked in the elevator as I am not looking to feel I might fall to my death on my climb to the 8th floor. IT IS SLOW. Slow like it’s tired and may snap. The night a wedding was held on site, we waited 28 minutes to get the elevator as there was an increased influx of riders on the crawler express.
Once we stopped in front of 804 I noticed no seal to ensure cleanliness yet my hear was pounding. I open the door with anticipation of a roaring 20s aesthetic in the room. Sadly I was met by mediocre hotel countertops and normal stark white bedding. I mean nothing like the outside.
The view was whatever, as I thought when the clerk said she would give us a “nice room since it’s our first time” that she would at least make sure that our room faced something to see, not the parking lot across the street. AnyWho the room seemed clean and fresh so that was a great. I took that as a sign that it was up to current Covid standards.
The second night I’m settled in and really paying attention. I’m the shower leaning my head back only to realize the ceiling is chipping right over the shower head. I start to examine and immediately remove my soap from the soap dish because I realize there’s mold underneath the rim and remnants of green soap from a previous guest. I discuss it with my mom and jotted it down as some thing ELSE to put in this email. THEN when we were getting dress for a night out my mascara rolled under the sink and what do you know, there was a open door (which I will assume is a access door for the sink). It would not close, there was dirt all around it, and I did not open it up to verify. Also, whoever wallpapered the bathroom decided that underneath the sink was not important. It’s all in the details Hilton. Every inch should be to standard.
THERE IS NO FRIDGE! When my mom and I made coffee with the bottom of the line coffee maker, the creamers left out for us to use curdled immediately. They had to be really old OR hot just sitting in the room. Since it was 10:30am and we saw the adjacent Starbucks, we decided to head down ONLY to be disappointed that they are open 7-10 am only.
When we checked in the clerk asked us which day we would like our room to be refreshed. Knowing the policy is now NOT to have it done daily, we chose Saturday as that was in the middle of our stay. When Saturday came we were happy that the room would be changed and the trash would be emptied because the cans are more like small planters, once you put a cup in, the trash is full.
As with all my stays I like to make sure that my money is being charge for the service that I actually receive. Now, to be clear I use my eyeliner because it can be washed out. I mark my sheets with the word change and tuck in to see if the bed actually has new sheets. We left for the day and upon return the towels had been changed and the beds were freshly made. I untucked the bottom of the bed to see if what I wrote was still there and to my horrific surprise the word change was RIGHT THERE just like I wrote it. It was 3 AM so there was no need to go downstairs to complain and wake up the entire hotel. I was livid! My mom calmed me down and we came to the conclusion that It was us who slept in the sheets previously and at this point didn’t want anyone else back in our room. How can I trust that this room was actually clean when we arrived. What if the last patron didn’t sleep in the second bed so they decided just to tuck it in. There is a present pandemic people. The room not being clean is totally unacceptable. The next day I explained it to a gentleman that was on duty his name was Derek. He was not happy at all and offered to set up cleaning in the morning as it was after midnight. He took my information and viewed the attached videos. He said that he also would be sending an email. I can’t believe that Hilton housekeeping services did not change my sheets. She also didn’t replace the news glasses it was a mess.
It’s now the last day and at this point I’m over Kansas City I’m over Hilton. I was checked out with ease everything paid. Only to wake up today October 6th to a text from my husband who’s out of town to bury his uncle stating I have been charged $718 all over again by Hilton or by the third-party booking.com.
I called immediately and had the two parties on the line together so they can figure out who made the second charge and now I need to wait two days for the investigation. Then after the investigation is complete I’ll have to wait another 7 to 15 days for the money to be returned THAT SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN TAKEN IN THE FIRST PLACE.
I am truly disappointed in my stay. Both my mother and I said that we will have to experience Kansas City again but definitely not with Hilton.
