My grandparents booked a deluxe room, upon checking in they were told they had been given an upgrade. In their upgraded room they found Black mould in shower ceiling Plug hanging off wall Knobs missing Stained toilet No plug for sink No bedside lamp No bedside table A double wardrobe in front of the sockets So much furniture in room - very difficult to manoeuvre around room Headboard so loose had to pack with towel to stop banging Dirty cracked paintwork around door Dirty cracked paint work on window sill Poorly repaired hole in door Dirty stained carpet worn in places They are both in their seventies, my grandad has health conditions, they felt they could not stay here. No staff available in the hotel, nobody answered the phone when they rang multiple times to inform them that they couldn’t stay in such a below standard accommodation. They returned the key and stayed with my great aunt. They approached the hotel for their money back as they didn’t end up staying, they were told to contact Booking.com who offered them €25 compensation. They’re not after compensation, they would just like their money back for a room they did not use due to its poor conditions.

Booked the hotel planning to get there for 11 got there for 11.30 everything was shut I pre booked this before th closing time. Got there any couldn’t get in even after I paid. Then they emailed trying to say I was a no show and that basically they’ve just robbed my money

I have to say that I am very disappointed in my stay with you at Rothwell House Hotel. Firstly I booked a family room for plenty of space for myself and my partner and when we made our way to the room we looked at the bed to find it had previously been slept in and not changed by housekeeping!! When we spoke with the reception desk we were given a different room, downsized to a standard double!? But the bad experience doesn't end there!!! Our replacement room was cold with old single glazed windows, and no heating working in either the bedroom or bathroom and with the only oil filled radiator in the bedroom infront of the windows the bathroom was constantly cold. Moving on to the room itself it was dirty with dust around the bottom of the furniture, dust layered in the curtains and cobwebs hanging between the curtains and the bed!! The bed itself had a broken top rail and the curtains for the 4 poster bed falling down, no spare pillows in the room for the bed and no bedside lamps despite there being bedside cabinets, the ceiling is covered in something and has not been cleaned or painted, also the bedding smelt of stale cigarettes!? The floor of the room is all over the place and creaks and squeaks keeping one another awake throughout the night. Moving onto the bathroom as noted before there was no heating!! The mirror shaver light did not work. The pipeworks around the soil stack and waste point was all exposed leaving wildlife free movement in and around the bathroom and bedroom!!? Connected to the bath taps was a built in shower which was a lovely but there was nowhere to hang the shower head or use it as a shower ( maybes that could be looked into ). To top everything off the fire alarm was activated just after 9am waking us up and there was nobody on the reception desk to speak to or make this complaint to!! Complained to the property through booking . Com but completely ignored. Booking . Com not really interested in helping!! Don't touch this place with a barge pole!! The images of this property do not match the reality of the place its disgusting!! There is no restaurant available nor any breakfast but on arrival every place that does food whether its breakfast, lunch or evening meals were all pointed out to us!! Clearly this place is obtaining money through deception and should be shut down!!!!!

Im writing this review with tears in my eyes spent 4 nights here and I'm so pleased to go home dear god what a crap hole I could literally have a crap clean my teeth and wash my feet in shower while watching TV all at the same time. Then climb in bed and itch the rest of the night away. The carpet in the room looks like it's never seen a vacuum as well . As for the shower if your over 12 stone there no way your getting in it as the door only opens half way. I don't where glasses normally to watch TV but had no choice in here as the TV is like a postage stamp with no remote control but lucky enough the room was that small I could turn it over with my toe. Only good thing about the place is its Friday and I'm out of here.Do your self a favour and book across the road at the red lion

This is without a shadow of a doubt one of the worst hotels I have stayed in. If you can get over the fact that it looks like the furniture was sourced over a number of years from several different car boot sales, it is just shabby, unsafe, unclean and pitifully bad! There is exposed wring running around most areas which looks far from safe or regulation, the fire exits are wedged open making the property both insecure and unsafe. Toilet seats are loose, bathroom and toilets were mouldy and unclean, furniture is cheap, wobbly and beyond tired. There were bags of laundry and rubbish lying on the landings and somebody desperately wandering the corridors spraying (air-freshener?) presumably to dampen the smell of the filthy, sticky carpets. DO NOT STAY HERE! PLEASE! You will regret it the instant you walk through the door and look the apologetic receptionist in the eye as he guiltily hands you a key. We walked out and phoned booking.com who were completely useless and just quoted policy that we would still have to pay. The owners of this place should be ashamed but I suspect that they don't give a toss and will continue to take money from unsuspecting travellers
