A surprise gem
Avaliou em 3 de setembro de 2022
Tucked away in the back streets of La Rochelle by the market is this dreamy bed and breakfast. With it’s individually coloured rooms, it’s tranquil garden and it’s lovely staff, it is the perfect place to stay. Our room (ochre I think) even had a steam room and a small patio area! Breakfast in the shady garden was delicious with local cheese, meat, yogurt, fruit juice and breads. We would come back and stay in a heartbeat.

We spend one night in the charming Blue Room and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The unique architecture of the excellently renovated hotel in the heart of La Rochelle is something not to be missed. The delicious French esd breakfast prepared and accompanied by the very kind and hosiptable owners of the house.

Lovely B&B

We spent a wonderful 4 nights at Eden Ouest in the suite Rouille. It was a lovely, large and very comfortable room with a huge bathroom. The breakfast was also very nice. The B&B is in a great position near the market and with a lovely restaurant,Theirs Temps, only a few doors away and about 5 minutes walk to the harbour.

Pretty but unprofessional for the price

It is a mixed bag. We took this hotel because of the rave reviews on TA. We were a little dismayed when we phoned ahead to ask about the booking, and the man who answered seemed like he wasn't really there. That feeling prevailed. The dude was friendly, but so laid back he was almost asleep. On the one hand, it is lovely and refreshing with a personal, charming place, far from the efficient, steely-smiling trained professionals of the big chains. But this felt like we were intruding in some private house. The room wasn't ready when we arrived, which is always a heartache when you travel by car and have driven for hours and hours and have a lot of luggage. There were quite steep stairs, going all the way to the top and no lift. We had to carry the luggage and the aged dog and arrived sweaty and panting to the top. The room itself was quite beautiful and certainly romantic. I can see how young newlyweds would fit in perfectly (if they're in good physical shape, that is). Inside the magnificent bathroom with the glorious wooden bathtub, there was nowhere to put our toiletries. More to the point, there was a complete absence of complimentary toiletries - not even soap! I had to climb all the way down those stairs and ask for soap (it's nice to wash your hand after six hours on the road), then climb all the way up again, only to find the soap dispenser the dude gave me was -- empty! The bathrobes looked nice and would have fitted a thin teenager snugly. We didn't even try them on. There was a small balcony, but the chairs were of the stringy type, with no cushions, and they were so low it would have been like sitting on the floor anyway, so we didn't try those either. We were a couple of minutes late for breakfast, which was still laid out on the table. When my husband said: "sorry we're a little late", the dude answered "yeah" and started to take away the coffee and bread and whatnot that was just sitting there. You have to understand that this place is not quite a hotel, it's more like an expensive B&B. There is only a couple of nice rooms and the breakfast, and we paid a lot of money for that. It is incredible to us that the dude didn't say "go ahead, there's coffee and croissants that you can still have". Also, the maid burst into our room without warning while we were still dressing, standing there half naked. This was way before checkout time. So - in spite of the lovely room and pretty bathroom and, as I said, very friendly staff - it was just too unprofessional for the price. We would happily have paid 90 euros but not more..

Setting a New Standard in central La Rochelle

A building from the 1700's, centrally located in the heart of old La Rochelle and a mere 8 minutes walk to the old port. Superb breakfast served with a personal touch. For those who have been everywhere and experienced everything - this is something different and refreshing. Simply superb.
