Trip Shortened because of Cost
The facility and rooms are nice. My room was freshly updated, very clean, with some nice design touches and large TV. The free breakfast was pretty average, though the fresh made cinnamon rolls were nice. Breakfast hours were shorter than most. The front desk was nice and helpful where they could be. My biggest issue was that I needed to add several days onto a week long stay and the cost was ridiculous. The hotel was only 50% full at most. The parking lot was only about 25% full. I was trying to add 2 mid-week days, a Tues and Weds evening and they tried to charge me almost $100 more per night than I was already paying. No amount of calls to the front desk or to the Holiday Inn call center could get them to bring the price down. So I had to back up and leave to another hotel. Seems like very poor pricing strategy and completely ruined my opinion of Holiday Inn, which had been good up to that point.
Really great hotel!
My husband and I are visiting our daughter and son-in-law for the first time in Lakeland and really love this hotel. It’s modern, clean, and convenient to the local Walmart which takes 4 minutes to walk to. The coffee downstairs is hot and available all day and the housekeeping staff is impeccable. They even went the extra mile to make our Kleenex look like a flower! We will never stay at a different hotel while visiting Lakeland again. Perfection! Oh, and the Cheddars restaurant in front of the hotel is another added bonus!
Great place for a great price
We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express South for three nights and had a great experience. The rooms are large, spotless, and freshly redecorated and furnished. The staff bends over backward to be available and pleasant. The free breakfast is above average (though it needed some oranges to add to the apples and bananas - it's Florida!), especially the amazing cinnamon rolls. There is a 24 hour exercise room and heated outdoor pool. It is centrally located - 12 minutes from Circle B Bar Reserve park, 5 minutes from the enormous Common Ground playground, 10 minutes from the Town Center mall area and cinemas, within walking distance of restaurants, groceries, and drugstores. Best of all, the price is very very reasonable.
IHG Left Us Stranded
Save yourself a lot of trouble and NEVER book a room with Holiday Inn. We showed up to our reservation at this hotel only to be told that the reservation I made over the phone two weeks ago through IHG customer service wasn’t transferred to the proper hotel location. I spent over an hour talking to IHG Corporate in the hotel lobby, ultimately to be told by an agent named Uzziah that IHG is neither able to transfer the reservation nor reimburse me because of the reservation type being non-refundable - even though the location issue was THEIR mistake. There was no reasoning with them, and I’m severely disappointed that a company would leave anyone stranded with no options in their hotel lobby at 11:00pm at night. Stay away at all costs. Fun fact: IHG also owns Crowne Plaza, Staybridge Suites, Atwell Suites, Candlewood Suites, and InterContinental Hotels & Resorts amongst others. Seriously, there are so many other lodging options that will take better care of you and not leave you stranded. Apparently their phone reservations mean absolutely nothing. Stay with a brand that is more deserving of your business and trust. The two employees working at the front desk were very nice and tried to help. The entire situation was mishandled by IHG’s phone customer service. Unfortunately, that has forever impacted my perception of the IHG brands. I just want to save everyone from having to experience the chaos that ensued due to their mishandling. It just wasn’t right.
This is probably one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in for an overnight visit. For me to say that this hotel is super clean, then trust me, it will exceed your expectations! Newly renovated, clean, tastefully decorated and really comfortable beds, you can’t go wrong staying here! The front desk staff were great too! There was a slight mix up with my reservation, which was completely my fault, but they were able to get me a refund for a non-refundable reservation!!
