Lovely Lunch
Came here with family, lots to choose from on the menu. Great friendly service. We got a table with a great window view. Our group of 6 all enjoyed their choices. I had the potato cakes which were delicious. Will visit again.
Nice hotel
Stayed one night, very clean hotel. Room basic but has everything you need, nice bathroom. Very friendly, helpful staff. Great location with all local ameneties a short walk or taxi ride away. Lovely views.
smarty pants waiter
So , we were here for a birthday meal, beautiful views of the sea and a really lovely waitress who was really good with the kids took our order. All was good untill the starter arrived , i had the arranchini which was billed as having smoked chicken inside , not only had chef forgotten the chicken but it was also devoid of any seasoning what so ever then the crowning glory was to find a long black hair in it , not great , anyhoo the maitre de was very apologetic about it and offered to deduct it from the bill ,all good and what you would expect. The meal continued to the mains , one of the party had ordered finnan haddie which was presented well , however the poached egg had barely seen a pot of hot water and was "snotty " raw i mentioned this to our waiter when he asked if everything was ok and was fully expecting another visit from the maitre de and at least the egg to be removed from the bill , NA !, NA! i couldn't have been more wrong the young man announced with dead pan delivery "well , at least it didn't have a hair in it " i know i should have said something at the time but i think i'm still in shock !
Very slow
We went in at 12 and there was 1 other table with 2 people in the restaurant, ordered our meal which was only 1 course. We waited for 45 minutes for our food to come, food was ok but the fish was on a fish shaped plate and there was no room for sauce etc. Then we order ice cream which took so long that we nearly left without it. We basically had to eat fast to get out we had been in there 1 hour 45 minutes. Way too long especially when you have children or someone who has to go back to work.
The staff are unfailingly polite and helpful...
I find myself struggling to provide a rating for the Lerwick. The staff are unfailingly polite and helpful (five star) and the Bay Brasserie does a pretty good venison steak (pink is five star though you sometimes have to send it back if overdone). Some of their other dishes rely a little too heavily on cream for my liking. But it’s when we get to the bedrooms that the Lerwick runs into problems. Those upstairs have showers that trickle because of the poor water pressure, though 235 has a good sea view and a 4 poster double bed. My personal favourites are 301 and 302. Both are downstairs and a fairly long walk from reception. Both have showers with a really good head of pressure. 301 has a double bed and a good sea view while 302 has twin beds and a double window with the best sea view in the hotel. I find it hard to escape the view that the Lerwick’s bedrooms should have been upgraded during the oil rich years when the going was good and the living was easy. My four star rating is for the staff, venison cooked pink and room 302...
