Best choice for Lijiang
This hotel has it all - beautiful grounds, great modern rooms with all the amenities, charming English speaking staff, great location in the old town - quiet yet very close to the action, and excellent price/quality ratio. Breakfast is only OK but this does not lower the otherwise perfect score
Lovely, quiet location
Tucked away on a quiet side street, yet only a few minutes’ walk away from one of Lijiang’s busiest pedestrian thoroughfares, Liman Wenzhi was the perfect spot to experience everything the ancient town had to offer. The hotel was modern, clean and comfortable and had a really calm air to it. Breakfast was just ok, but it did have a highlight, having Pu-er tea carefully brewed and served in the traditional way. Delicious. The staff were attentive and helped us with a transfer to the train station. The only very minor gripe was that we lost the plastic room card and were charged 30 Yuan, which felt a bit stingy, but otherwise a great stay.
A unexpected gem in a historic old town
The hotel is small but very stylishly and tastefully decored. All the details in the hotel are immaculately put together. They only have 3 client service staff, it seemed, but then it’s a small boutique hotel with 15 rooms only. Tucked away in the heart of the Lijiang Old Town, it requires a small walk through cobbled, narrow streets to get there, but their hardy service ladies had no qualms just carrying out bags for us on their own!! We were welcomed by a friendly, personalised tea service, and the tea was sooooo nice. Staff took great pride in their service and took guest reviews very seriously, hence they went out of their way to be helpful and responsive. It was a real highlight to our visit to Lijiang.
A minute's stroll to Old Town, but far from the madding crowd
This is a quaint boutique hotel with just 15 rooms overlooking a small courtyard, where we chilled drinking tea and wine in the evenings after a day of sightseeing. Our room was quite spacious, with a large king bed, separate bath & shower, his&her wash basins and other usual amenities. The hotel is located about 250m from the main road, through some cobbled alleys. We were met at the main road by Jade (Ouyang), who helped us with our bags and led us to the hotel. At the hotel, we were treated to some pu-erh tea and Jade suggested some sights we should visit. She also helped us with the tickets to a cultural show, and arranged the transportation to the sights. You pick your breakfast from a menu, and they cook it for you at your desired time in the morning. The selection was not big, but the ones we picked were quite palatable. Lijiang Old Town, which is apparently an UNESCO Heritage site, is a maze of cobbled alleys flanked by old shops and is quite interesting. It is about a 45 second stroll from the hotel, but despite the proximity, the hotel is quite well insulated from the hustle and bustle of Old Town. Undoubtably, the best thing about the hotel is the attentive and friendly staff. They helped us with our taxis, tickets where necessary and even recommended restaurants in the Old Town we could try. We really liked the hotel, and would thoroughly recommend it to visitors to Lijiang.
Hotel arranged for a car to pick us at our cost from the train station and the staff helped us with our luggage at the drop off point near the hotel. Upon reaching the hotel, we were warmly welcome with traditional Chinese tea service provided by OY. She also recommended appropriate restaurants that suit our taste and strongly suggested we should take in a song and dance performance "Legend of Romance" (290 RMB per person) at the Songcheng Theme Park (need car service to get you there & back at 50RMB). While Dayan(大研) is the main old town of Lijiang bursting with activities, the hotel is located in a quiet side street yet within easy reach of shops, eateries, access to Black Dragon Garden, museum, and 万古楼 where you can take in the entire view the old town. There are 4 types of breakfast you can select from (give your order the night before), they are egg & bacon on toast; traditional rice noodle; local specialty consists of glutinous & black rice pancake (savour) with fried egg and seasonable vegetable; and traditional porridge with condiments. On a simple buffet spread there are soy milk, milk, and mixed fruit juice. Coffee is provided upon request. (This review is also found in booking, com)
