Disappointing

Avaliou em 10 de julho de 2022

We recently stayed at Villa Howden and the location and building are great, however that's where it stops. The receptionist was quite unfriendly and inexperienced. Our room was situated above the kitchen which meant we could hear the kitchen exhaust fan quite clearly in our room. The shower was dirty, the couch still had food crumbs from the previous guest and the room was in need of a paint. The provided breakfast was nearly inedible. I was served day old cold pancakes and my husband was served a raw beef sausage.

Overpriced and under-delivered

After traveling around Tasmania and staying at a dozen places, none of them disappointed as much as Villa Howden. We read a review from another TripAdvisor contributor which said that the water was either freezing cold or boiling hot in the shower? How could that be I wondered… but my wife found exactly the same problem. Also, as there is only free-to-air TV, I thought I might watch something on the Internet… wrong. The best download speed I could get was 0.73Mbps… not fast enough for the most basic watchable app. The lovely lady at the counter explained that sometimes the Internet at her home is slow.. that doesn’t help at all. Apart from the fact that the villa doesn’t resemble a French provincial villa in any tangible aspect apart from being a relatively new building but with the deterioration usually seen in truly historic building, the condition of the windows (bird guano and spider webs), the poorly repaired ‘French’ door in our room, the broken and chipped cement render in many many places is consistent with what I have read from other critical contributors: this place is not worth the money. I’m glad I only have to stay 1 night in this dive.

A marvelous place to stay !!!

A beautiful boutique hotel was tucked and secluded in a lushy green and nice area. This french inspired villa offer you one of its peaceful and tranquil while you are away from bustling and busy Hobart. The villa has offer a lovely room with nicely touch of fine decorations, also staffs were attentive and helpful. Even though the villa is seems a bit further away from city centre, however its quietness and calmness are top up those disadvantage points. Not to mention that, the villa offer a private vantage view of the stinkpot bay which is facing south, an easy way to chase the southern lights if it appears, however this phenomenon is still depends on the sun activities too.

Beautiful Villa!

My partner and I stayed for 3 nights, we needed some time away from work and also our sharehouse. Villa Howden provided a beautiful and refreshing place to stay, visually stunning and comfortable. Our room had a beautiful water view and we particularly enjoyed listening to the water foundation trickle outside when we opened the balcony doors 🖤 Our room had everything we needed. We enjoyed a meal in the restaurant and drinks in front of their cosy fireplace. We enjoyed our complimentary breakfasts and sitting in the library playing chess. My partner particularly enjoyed the heated pool. The water was so clear and warm, we floated and relaxed for a few hours! The Peter Murrell reserve down the road has some nice walking tracks that we enjoyed exploring. We also indulged at the Margate Pancake Train, not to be missed! The staff were incredibly welcoming and accommodating. We would love to return and highly recommend a visit!

Good but not luxury

Avaliou em 4 de fevereiro de 2022

Accommodation was fine but clearly past it’s heyday which is a little bit sad to see. I reckon it would have been a really lovely B and B with the added extras that used to be included (eg port, barista coffee for breakfast etc). The library/games room was unfortunately being used for babysitting staff children, sat up at the desk eating in there and on iPad/computer all day. Definitely not a luxury accommodation feeling. Breakfast was fine, but small servings (one small supermarket brand bit of toast) and wanted to charge an extra few dollars to swap out an item to make it vego. On the phone prior to arriving they said they were doing room service dinner with light options, however this had changed by the time we arrived a day or two later. Restaurant is completely closed apart from breakfast for guests, no dinner or afternoon tea. This is very unclear from website etc. We loved the pool. However in the room next door to pool (when bathroom is) there were dozens of wedding dresses lying out- someone was clearly selling them from there but a bit odd as anyone could take them or try them on. Our room was quite small, I saw others were a bit bigger. We won’t go back as there are so many other great places to try but overall it was fine.
