Long weekend for Interwetten Cup

Well presented on arrival and easy to find. Bit of a language barrier with the staff but we got there eventually. Room was nice and window opens fully. Not very noisy unless the church next door has its bells going. No kettle or drink making facilities in the room. Pillows are very strange, 1 is massive and the other is tiny. Tv only has German channels which is expected really. Wi-fi is very good, we had 3 devices running off it all at once without any issues. We had a big problem on the first night when an old man walked into our room at 2am, absolutely no idea how as the door was locked. Spoke to staff the next morning who were baffled as to how it happened. Our personal thought is they registered his card to our room by mistake and he happened to return to his room late at night and couldn’t access his own room so went around until he found a door that worked. Come to this conclusion as one of our keys stopped working so seems the cards aren’t great plus easy mistake to make by reception. Spent the rest of the stay with the chair up against the door at night to avoid any more unwanted visits. Food was ok. Minimal choice and only small amounts put out at a time so if the restaurant was busy it was a bit of a who gets there first wins scenario. Like only 3 eggs put out at a time and 5 sausages. Once they were gone you have to wait while more were cooked. They have a Michelin star, although the food wasn’t that great. Looked into having dinner there but didn’t get what half of the menu was. Stuff I’d not heard of before. Hotel closes each day, at which point, they lock the doors. You can leave out the back and use you’re key card to get back in the front but no staff available after closing. Also, we had an issue where 1 card stopped working. Luckily we had a 2nd one otherwise we would have been locked out. Never seen this before in all the hotels I’ve stayed it. Very strange operation. Meppen itself isn’t great if you don’t speak German. We tried going out for food at a few places and decided against it as no one could understand us and we couldn’t understand them. Instead resorted to shopping at a local Aldi and McDonalds and used the self service machines.

Once is enough and never again!

Upon checking in, the staff were great and accommodating but the next day it wasn't what I expected anymore. In the morning, I went straight to the restaurant to have my breakfast, the staff approached me and thought I wasn't a guest or just coming from the moon or maybe how I dressed that day, which normally in a hotel they only need to ask for your room number and that's all. She apologized and fine its okey with me. Furthermore, I went early to my husband in the hospital located nearby this hotel to assist him because he got his operation. When I returned to my hotel room it was already cleaned up and ready for the next guest. It was only 10:30 am when I came back and as far as I know I have all the rights until 11 am on the said room. I had only my phone charger in the room, toothbrush and a small empty bottle when I left and it was all gone. As if I already checked out simply because I don't have other things left behind. It took some time before they found out where my charger was. Therefore, the staff should be more discreet, there is a saying "Don't judge a book by it's cover" and improve your communication with other staffs specially to the cleaning staff because it's not necessary to have the room clean again just because they are not informed well and please stop being assuming. If you ever wonder to book in this hotel, I suggest you wear clothes like business man/woman and bring big suitcases, so they will never "assume" that your room is abandon and treat you very well.

Big rooms and bathroom. Internet good. Excellent breakfast. Wonderful dishes especially during aspergus season. Very tallented chef in the kitchen. They serve the best Pils in Northern Germany - Jever! Easy to get around with wheelchair.

I arrived to find the hotel had no record of the reservation my company booking agent had made for two nights. The receptionist was superb..she had a room for my first night but not the 2nd. In between apologising for something that was not the hotel's fault, she called the local hotels until she found a room. She then printed the hotel details from the web. I could not have asked for any more!! Had her english not been so good i would have really struggled...thank you. I didn't eat in the restaurant, but the breakfast was very good.
