Excellent service, but check what's charged extra

Avaliou em 27 de janeiro de 2018

We stayed here as a group of 17 so had the whole place Rooms were comfy, no A/C but fans. A few on short timers, so check this and maybe move to another room Canal close by full of wildlife Nice outdoor seating The food was pretty good. Breakfast fresh papaya, toast, eggs . Dinner was a buffet, not spectacular but tasty We were really well looked after over the 2 days, but please be aware that all the little extras are charged for. Water at the table 100Rs and if a plate of food is brought out to your table (In our case a small plate of fried fish) you will be charged for this. As long as you understand this 'Spanish System' you'll be OK

Calm and quiet hotel near Mahiyangana

Avaliou em 30 de abril de 2017

This hotel located near a paddy field an d a small river is very calm and quiet. We come for the second time here for helping to build schools in Dambanna. Only one small default no fruits in morning breakfast and concentrate fruits juices. All rest is perfect. But don't eat buffet it's very expensive

Average place

Avaliou em 14 de abril de 2017

Good for overnight stay. They don't have AC rooms. Average rooms with basic facilities. Rooms are not spacious hence the heat is felt more. It's better if you can have meals from outside as the food is not very tasty even though its not very expensive.

Tribal Retreat at Mahiyangana

Avaliou em 12 de janeiro de 2017

Whilst staying here, from my balcony I saw the morning workers climbing the palm trees and collecting the daily source of coconuts for the hotel without any harness or safety equipment of course, the sound of peacocks in the distance and rice fields. Quite calming until I saw the rooms. Unfortunately bedding and room was dirty which was quite off putting but managed to override this by finding clean ones. However having a balcony was nice and private and the curry they prepared for me in the evening was great. Being able to visit the last of the Sri Lankan Aborigine tribes closeby was a bonus, the chief himself and his family and participated in a warding off evil spirit ceremony which was something new and different and would recommend visiting the tribe venue where you can see how they make baskets from the seeds of the Kirindi forest tree after removing the skins, rings from the Karola black tree and bone from ivory for pendants. It was also interesting to have been able to meet and attend an interview with the Tribal Chief Uruwatiga Aththo and two other interviewers.

More like a pilgrim’s rest!

Avaliou em 12 de dezembro de 2016

First of all the name itself is misleading. This is more like a pilgrim’s rest rather than a villa. The only positive things were the room and the bathroom. Both were clean and the bathroom was spacious. We were told that the hot water facility was provided for the bathroom. However, we got hot water in the evening but not in the morning. Their double rooms can accommodate four people because it consists of two double beds. However, the mattresses were not comfortable. Moreover, the reception, room service and the restaurant were all handled by a single person. He was very friendly but it was clear that he was not well-trained. According to the owner’s captivating words, it is an eco-friendly place and all vegetable dishes they make are straight from their garden. Yet, the only thing which we found eco-friendly was not having air conditioners. The disastrous part of the stay was food! We had our dinner at their restaurant and a buffet was offered. We were shocked to see the number of dishes which was offered. Just plain rice, ridged-gourd curry, dhal curry, tempered potatoes and fish curry. It would have been tolerable if they tasted good but not even the bananas they offered as the dessert tasted that great. I only recommend this place for budget travelers, just as a night stay.
