Don’t choose this Residence Inn

I have NEVER written a negative review. I am a Marriott gold member and my husband is a Marriott platinum member. We have stayed at numerous Residence Inns, but none have been like this, even during Covid restrictions. Customer service, front desk and location were great, but management/owner used Covid restrictions as an excuse not to provide basic amenities. For example, they did not provide coffee in lobby, which is fine. But the coffee maker in my room had a dirty water container with mold in it. On top of that no sugar or creamer were provided in room because these packets are considered “high touch.” I was told I need to come down and request them, where upon they are just handed to me. So I guess that is more sanitary than leaving wrapped packages in the room? It was such an inconvenience, I ended up just buying my own coffee and condiments from Walgreens. Also, for “breakfast,” we were given packaged muffin and a granola bar. I was told no perishable items would be available due to Covid. I get that. But how about offering a bottle of water with breakfast? Also, you provided “not packaged”apples, which is very “high touch.” Seriously, this is using Covid as an excuse. If you cared that much, my remotes would have been wrapped like all of the other hotels I have stayed at since Covid. Also, the other Residence Inn a few blocks away are not going to this extreme. I get precautions, but there are ways to still ways accommodate travel.
Practical, not luxurious

I stayed here while I was having my bathroom remodeled. It was during COVID-19, of course, and I applaud their efforts at keeping common areas clean. It all looked fresh and tidy. As for the King Suite ... well, don't believe the pictures. The bathroom was clean, and the bed was OK. However, there was no oven (the hotel only has a few suites with ovens, and they were all occupied) and there wasn't much furniture to speak of. The couch was uncomfortable, but the only alternatives (other than the bed) were to sit in the desk chair or one of the two counter-height chairs at the very small counter-height table. I suppose all the comfy trappings, like throw pillows or easy chairs, have been put away until after COVID.
I was most disappointed by the carpeting. I swear it was installed in the '70s, and I'm not at all sure when it was last cleaned.
The staff was friendly. The location is great, even with everything closed during the pandemic. I do wish they had daily papers and maybe coffee in the lobby in the morning. Overall, it's not special, but it's fine.
Good Business Stay

Stayed here during a month of business in Minneapolis. During bad weather, there is easy Skyway access and could walk throughout downtown without going outside. Room was comfortable, great bed, and kitchen area had all we needed. Staff provided just the right amount of friendliness, attention, and privacy. Free daily breakfast was available and typical for the chain, attendant was great. We parked in the LaSalle Court Parking Garage for a great monthly contract rate and could access the hotel directly from there via elevator without having to go outside.
January trip to Minneapolis

Great location in downtown Minneapolis. Close to public transportation, downtown attractions, bars and restaurant. On skywalk system - did not have to go outside except to catch my ride to the airport! Free coffee and tea in lobby. Breakfast was hot and well prepared. Area was clean and well kept. Security in hotel was great. Needed key card to enter and use elevator. Rooms were adequate for business travel. This hotel would be suitable for families traveling to downtown Minneapolis. However there was no pool and the lounge area was small. More suited for business travelers Would recommend.
Staff needs coaching and overhaul

I am a titanium Marriott member, who had planned on staying at the hotel during Christmas week. The hotel refused to look over my documentation which recorded my disability and high blood pressure needs to have my animal with me. While I understood there was a fee, I simply wanted to know if I would have to pay it or not. Rather, the front desk manager was immediately dismissive and ignore/refused to look at my physician's letter and paperwork. She printed out the ADA website pages and said, to read it over. When I asked for a manager, she refused to connect me to one. She eventually told me to take my disability some place else and that she considered me using my disability as an excuse. Suffering from PTSD, I did become agitated, but only after the manager provoked me during a very difficult holiday week.
No one should go here until under new management. The staff was very junior and I would expect more from Marriott.
