Perfect for the Barolo area

Monforte d'Alba is an excellent place for exploring the Barolo region, more restaurants than in the other villages. If you stay in Monforte, then Grappolo d'Oro is the place to stay, excellent restaurant in the hotel (didn't use it this time). The staff is very friendly and helpful, you feel at ease when you are there. We have visited in the spring the other times, this time in the middle of the summer, and the lack of air condition was a bit of a problem, warm nights in July. Other than that - perfect

Monforte d’Alba is the Barolo village with most hotels and restaurants and Grappolo d’Oro is one of the best – as a hotel as well as a restaurant. Situated right on the little piazza in the middle of the village, it offers nice and comfortable rooms, a friendly welcome by the brothers (which is which ) and the rest of the staff.
Nice hotel but not for a Tuesday stay

This is a nice small hotel with well appointed, comfortable, rooms but that’s as far as it goes. We were booked, by Mac’s Adventure, for a Tuesday night stay as part of a walking program....arrived to find, much to our surprise, the hotel and all facilities closed. So called the number on the front door, front door opens, we are given a room and instructed how to enter and exit thru the side door....THOUGHT WE WERE GUESTS, BUT FEEL LIKE WE ARE AN UNWELCOME INMATES....concierge is unconcerned....we definitely don’t feel like guests. Moreover while the room is comfortable, there is no apparent air conditioning, no staff to call on Tuesday’s so we need to keep windows open for cool, but we are facing the square so lots of car/truck noise.....oh well. It’s a “never on a Tuesday” situation if you are thinking of booking....we would not repeat.
Lovely family-run hotel in the centre of 'town' - perfect for short break

Perfect place to stay for 3 nights while we attended a friend's wedding nearby. The 'town' is more like a village, but is charming, with a handful of restaurants and bars. Hotel was clean and rooms were spacious, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant was also fantastic, with the streetside tables providing the perfect spot to watch the world. Only tiny criticism is that there is no air conditioning in the rooms, which, in late July in Italy, means they get very warm. We did, however, ask for a fan, and the staff were only too happy to accommodate. Coffee-making facilities in the rooms would also be a bonus, but the excellent coffee at breakfast meant it wasn't too much of a problem! PS You better like the sound of church bells for an alarm clock!
