Perfect location - Incredible Service

Jaguarundi is the best place to stay in Monteverde. Starting with their rooms, grounds, location and personnel it just makes your experience here one of a kind. You are just 5 minutes on a walking distance from Santa Elena downtown where you can find anything you need and still enjoy the silence from the forest when you are at the lodge. It’s just perfect. And also, they wil help you with tours around Monteverde and Selvatura Park.

We booked to stay at Jaguarundi who insisted on giving us an “upgrade” to their sister hotel Ficus. On checking our travel budget the following week, we noticed that the hotel had charged us double for our stay. We were informed in March that we would be refunded but to be patient because of the Covid pandemic. It is now June and we haven’t received anything, they are not taking calls or answering emails. I see from the reviews that there was a similar incident in February.
No room, charged anyway!!

We booked through the Jaguarundi website and received a confirmation email. After a long day, we arrived at the lodge dirty and tired to find that they did not have a room for us! After an hour and a half, they found a room for us at a much less desirable hotel. It was high season, and the hotel we were sent to had ZERO guests - to give you an idea. Despite this, we were put in the cheapest corner room where we could listen to the wind howl all night. We decided to cancel our 2nd night at Jaguarundi and move on to our next destination - and they CHARGED US FOR THE SECOND NIGHT ANYWAY! We cancelled because we had only booked 2 nights, and preferred to go on to our next destination instead of changing hotels daily. After emailing with the 'executive of reservations', I was assured our charge would be refunded. When I followed up a week later, I was told it was being processed. Weeks later - no refund, and no reply to my email. DO NOT BOOK AT JAGUARUNDI if you want to have a room when you arrive in town!
Charming lodge in the middle of nature & the middle of town!

Would you like to see capuchin monkeys in the morning, playing on the hanging bridge that leads to your hotel room? How about howler monkeys in the trees outside the reception desk? How about having the chance to live in a jungle while being able to walk less than 5 minutes to the center of town? Do you enjoy having the chance to chat with native Costa Ricans about their beautiful country? Then this is the place for you! From the moment you check in, you will feel right at home. Every evening, we chatted with Abigail, the lovely front desk receptionist who arranged fabulous tours (we recommend El Bosque night animal watching tour and Selvatura Day Trip to experience hanging bridges/butterfly house/hummingbird garden – both, especially Selvatura, were great) and suggested great restaurants – our favorites in town were Sabor Tico and the Tree House. Not only was she a fountain of information, she was delightful to talk with and became a friend. Rogelio, the morning front desk receptionist, was also very nice and helpful. Fernando, the breakfast server and night bartender, was also charming and made us feel most welcome. And did I mention the delicious complimentary buffet breakfast? It's full of variety and very tasty – I especially enjoyed the fresh tropical fruits. The location is ideal – only 5 minutes from the downtown area with restaurants, shopping, and a don't-miss spot, the Monteverde Orchid Gardens. There is also a nice lounge for sipping a drink or chatting with other hotel guests. Don't miss the chance to stroll the grounds and hike to the sister hotel up the way, Hotel Ficus. We are so glad we followed our hearts and stayed at Jaguarundi instead of listening to some reviews that commented about the thin walls and other issues, because we had no problems like that here. The WiFi was even really good! Budget prices for a unique experience. Definitely stay here!
