We stayed as part of a deal for the Mull Targa Rally. The hotel main reception appeared to have just been decorated but going downstairs work was still in progress, and they obviously had had a problem with damp which they were sorting Apart from this our room was great - comfortable beds, beautiful view across the water (if you could see when it wasn't raining!). Bathroom was good with shower over bath. Hospitality tray was lovely with nice teas, fresh coffee and a cafitiere and Tunnocks teacake! We came early and ate in the bar one night which was ok but not wonderful, but having said that the next night for the after rally dinner was great, and the breakfasts were very tasty.
Good base from which to explore Mull
Not a fancy hotel, but clean and tidy. Quite sprawling in its layout, and not a looker from the outside. We couldn't use the swimming pool as there always seemed to be swimming lessons going on, but the outdoor hot tub was great! Food was ok in restaurant, but probably worth venturing out to eat. Good accomodation for the price
Whilst there is modernisation going on in the lobby area, the hotel would benefit greatly from new windows. The single-glazed units produce a lot of condensation overnight. Also the rooms could do with better lighting- the main light was too dim to illuminate the dressing-table area. The lights above the beds need re-thinking too as when sitting up in bed, we both banged our heads off the lamps. The bathroom extractor fan was inoperable too, leading to even more condensation. In this day and age ,a socket or USB port next to the bed is preferable to one the other side of the room when charging mobile phones. On a plus side - the beds were amazingly comfortable, the breakfast was delicious and the staff were super- efficient.
We stayed here one night when exploring Isle of Mull.Hotel is very old, so public areas are straight from the 80’s.Our room was very basic but was good enough for sleeping for a one night.Bed was king size and comfortable.Toilet didn’t flush properly. They had good variety of tea in the room and also quality coffee to do caféteria in the room. They also provided pretzels and chocolate bar which were in the room. We had a dinner back in the hotel bar area. They have a separate dining room as well, so we asked the barman if we could see that menu as well.He told us to get the menu from dining room, instead of actually bringing that for us.Bar wasn’t even busy at that time and there was 2 men serving! So my partner went to get the menu, no staff was in there, so he wandered in the dining room and managed to find one menu. Dining room menu was very limited and to be honest, quite boring and dated, so we decided to order from the bar menu.Menu for the bar was also quite boring, burgers, pies and sandwiches.Soup of the day was the only starter, so ended up having 2 soups for starters and 2 burgers for mains. Soup at that day was red lentil and it was quite bland and fake, lacking with the flavour.Burgers were quite weird as in combinations. My partner had chicken and chorizo burger with aioli.Burger tried to be gourmet but failed big time.He couldn’t taste any chorizo or aioli in it and it has weird fried vegetables in it as well.I ordered honey bbq beef burger, and all it was, was just loads of bbq sauce and fried onions. A bit dissapointed in there.I’ve had better meals, also worse meals. Breakfast was continental.I quess because of the low season, they hadn’t set up a buffet, so the waitress asked what we wanted and brought everything over.We got pastries and fruit. She offered cerials as well but no ham or cheese wasn’t offered. We ended up having 2 full breakfasts and what we got was 1 sausage, 1 slice of black pudding, 1 slice of haggis, scrambled eggs, half a tomato and one slice of bacon.Where were the beans or potato scone? Not even a hash brown ( should really be tattie scone, after all we were in Scotland!) So all in all, I wouldn’t say avoid the place. But I think the owners should but some money back in the hotel, to bring it up today’s standards. Also they really need to train their staff with basics, how to serve people, smiling is a big part of guest experience.I felt that the staff was there only because of money, not delivering a good service, they didn’t seem like they were enjoying what they were doing. I’m a waitress as well, so I know what I’m talking about. Menus should be brought today as well and be made propely. And also they should add more varieties to the menus as well. This hotel has a potential to be the best place in the island, if they’d do the basic changes. Only the receptionists were friendly and were smiling, that was a plus. Not sure if I would stay here again
We stayed here for two nights in late October. First of all, it should be said that there are not a lot of decent hotels on Isle of Mull, so this one might be considered very good compared to others. The hotel is in a rather isolated forested area, but just a few minutes from the ferry over to Oban. It caters to tour groups (proximity to the ferry is key). Perhaps because it was late in the season or perhaps because they cater to the tour group crowd, a lot of the staff seemed disinterested and just not friendly. It's a big place, and does have amenities like a spa and decent fitness room that other hotels on the island may not have. But it shows its age---lobby needs to be spruced up, dining room could be given more atmosphere, etc. Our room was a typical motel room----comfortable, but nothing special. We did have a nice view out over the sound. No real complaints on the room---just OK. The food in the restaurant was once again OK, but by no means fine dining. About what you would expect for a hotel which focuses on big groups. In summary, this hotel is a good base for exploring the island and convenience to the ferry is a big plus. So spending two nights here was bearable for us, just don't expect to be wowed---location good, quality not so much...
