Huge mountain top hotel
I was a guest with my family at this hotel and we just loved our experience. 1- Location It is located on a mountain top overlooking all of Nafplio. Depending on your room, you can get marvelous views of the city and the surrounding sea. Accessing the hotel is through two routes: 1) Car but beware of the narrow roads leading to it 2) By foot from the elevator leading all the way down to the heart of the city center. I stayed at this hotel for 3 days and we had a small 11 months kid and we did not have any issues The elevator leading to the city center is on the hotel grounds. It takes you around 30 seconds to go down the heart of the mountain and then you open on a small parking space, from there onward it is a few seconds and you merge straight onto the city's market. As it is located on top of the mountain, location might not be best for people who don't like or can't walk. 2- The hotel itself It seems to be an old hotel. I was joking with my wife that it seems to be a summer retreat from the soviet or German era converted to a hotel. It is built with solid grey stones and it has this feel of grandeur as if you were walking to the leader's retreat. It has multiple wings and the reception is on the main one that had a huge entry leading to the main lobby. I think the hotel is in renovations so the lobby more of something out of the 80s. The old wing is all as such but I think it will be quote renovated in the next few months. I requested to have my room on the newly renovated wing and it was just great 3- Rooms As mentioned earlier, request to stay in the newly renovated wing. Rooms are quite big and spacious. Mine had a balcony overlooking the private pool for the block we were staying at. An infinity pool overlooking the city, it is one of the best experiences of this place. Rooms come equipped with the standard amenities from a flat screen TV to a coffee maker. 4- Service I had a great experience with the personnel. They were all great and were helping us with all our needs. I can't but be very thankful for all the prompt services and replies during the morning breakfast buffet, lunch and evening dinner in the gorgeous restaurant with its magical view I recommend this hotel if you like to be in the city but somewhat out of it at the same time. If you prefer to be in the middle of the center, then there are a coupe of other good choices you can consider, but it is quite hard getting to them by car as they are in predominantly pedestrian areas. The Nafplio Palace Hotel has plenty of free indoor and outdoor parking spaces, so you can park and forget about the car for the duration of the stay ***Please like this review if you find it helpful. Bad maintenance, worn-out, completely out-dated
Forget all the pictures you see on web pages: this hotel is completely worn-out and needs a radical re-modeling. Rooms are old, somehow stinky and with many items broken or barely repaired. Common spaces are largely outdated as well and breakfast less than average. Our door was very difficult to open and close, power plugs defective and sound insulation between rooms very poor. They only positive note is for the friendly staff and the good rate.
Over-priced and run down.
We booked this place at the end of a wonderful trip to Greece. We wanted to splurge the last couple days of our trip, so we booked a suite with private swimming pool. When we arrived, the place looked partly deserted, although reception was very friendly. But the hotel is very dated and drab. My first step inside the front doors I nearly tripped on a dirty, rumpled piece of carpet in the entry. Everywhere inside is dull and under-lighted in my opinion. When we got to our room, it was very clean but the pool was not heated, and considering they charged us an extra $95/day for pool heating, we were not pleased. They did get it working by the second day and credited us one day. Food on the property was marginal. The views are what you pay for, they are spectacular, but you can always drive or hike up for the same view. Out of three elevators to the Old Town from the hotel, only one worked. It was dirty and made loud clanging noises, which does not give warm and fuzzies. Overall, we enjoyed our stay but would not stay here again.
“5 Star Hotel” - Ruined Honeymoon
We stayed in Greece for 2 weeks to celebrate our honeymoon. We tried to book 5 star hotels as we both have never spent money for that and wanted to experience it. Thank god we only stayed 2 nights at this run down barely functioning place. Upon arrival you are greeted with broken elevators and buckets catching drips. Next you find out quick that there is no WiFi in the rooms. This is 2019 - in a 5 star hotel. After that our bed topper had lumps all over and when inspecting the lumps it was also stained yellow and the entire room smelled horrible. There were loose wires just exposed in 3 parts of the room. Also....this was our “upgraded” room. When we finally checked out of this rundown hotel the “nice” reception lady basically blamed us for not asking for a tech to fix all our stuff. Like we want to deal with calling tech and people in our room fixing stuff. This whole place is a scam just like many things in Greece. I know that the location and views are amazing but they would also be amazing in a tent on the hill. I would not stay at this place for free again. A complete ripoff and they know it is. It’s unacceptable and this hotel should be closed down or fined for outright fraud and laziness and I’m sure all sorts of health and building violations. But since it’s in Greece and there is no regulations or accountability for anything it can continue to rip people off. Oh yeah and the food. Lol. Crunchy Risotto, stale bread, no flavor, and honestly the worst food I had in Greece. We didn’t even eat it and they still charged us full price because they gave us a two dollar wine to make up for it. Screw this place. If I can just prevent one person from wasting their time and money at this place that would be amazing. ZERO STARS. a joke, disgusting, rude. Avoid at all costs.
This hotel is a very old hotel, late 60' early 70' I think. NO WIFI (only in lobby) I got a refurbished room. very nice. I got a glimpse on other rooms. not as nice. Common areas are remained old un-refurbished. Breakfast buffet was excellent. The best thing about this place, is the amazing view, overlooking the town and the sea. My room was very spacious and comfortable. Balcony with wood floor, very comfortable furniture, clear glass rail, breathtaking view. Air jet bathtub and a large shower. TV in front of bathtub. The location is very special. it is up on top of a hill, so must use a car (or taxi) for going down-town.
