Wonderful hotel on the beach
Avaliou em 10 de Outubro de 2021
Took a family vaca with husband, my sister and her son in Early Sept. 2021. We decided to stay at two separate properties to be able to take advantage of the hotel's different amenities. Husb and I stayed at Charela. We have been to Negril a dozen times over the years and usually split stays between the beach and the cliffs. This time was all beach, our first time staying at Charela. Most days were "No Movement" days but we still managed to have fun!
Charela Inn is a lovely hotel with a nice wide, palm tree lined beach. The hotel was pretty empty... maybe 4 other rooms were being occupied while we were there. They do allow non-guests to utilize the beach but due to No Movement measures, the beach was usually pretty empty. Troy did an excellent job setting up the beach and keeping his eye on things.
We stayed in S04, which was a nice sized room with a wonderful view of the sea. The bed was very comfy and I loved pulling down the curtains on the poster bed while we slept. Every morning I would go down to the restaurant and order a pot of coffee to bring back to the room. Nicola, Alison and Debbie (lovely restaurant staff) were always ready with a smile and a nice conversation. We'd have the coffee in the room on the balcony and then a little while later we'd go have breakfast in the restaurant. I believe Charela is popular with locals, too. Even though there weren't many rooms being occupied while we were there, the restaurant usually had some diners. It is an open air restaurant with seating indoors and outdoors. The menu is varied and the food is delicious. The dinner menu is HUGE! So many selections to choose from! The food came out quicker than other places we have eaten at in Negril over the years. That comes in handy when you are hungry. They have several wines by the glass too which I always appreciate
Although we generally do not get excited over a swimming pool when the Caribbean sea is in your front yard, we absolutely loved the round pool at Charela! It's in the beautiful courtyard garden. We were lucky to have that pool all to ourselves both times we went in it. Bird watchers will love the birds flying around the grounds. KingFishers, hummingbirds and woodpeckers were common. The pelicans were amazing! I don't remember seeing as many pelicans on the beach in prior trips! Maybe it was the season. The would fly right over your head and crash down into the water to catch fish. Amazing. Bring binoculars!
Charela Inn is perfect for those who want an authentic Jamaican vibe whilst staying in Negril. It's the perfect spot between old school rustic charm and modern amenities. It is also on a great section of the beach. You can go to Idle A While right next door for a drink and food, across the street to Best In The West (try their conch soup if you can!) and walk the beach in either direction for lots more food and drink options, although the food at Charela is so good you may never want to eat elsewhere else. We loved Charela so much we're going back in January 2022!
Charela Inn Always a Great Get Away

My husband and I traveled to Charela Inn the end of June for our 4th stay and had another nice break on the nicest stretch of beach. Having finally been vaccinated and allowed to travel without quarantining upon return to the US we headed to Jamaica after being tested for covid for our flight. The airport, Newark, NJ, was busy, the flight filled. Sangster's airport was busy. It was kind of surprising. Our pre arranged transport through Charela Inn was waiting for us and we were on our way. Our arrival was pleasant and we were off to our room in no time. We stayed in the new building on the third floor and it had a great view. We learned that our first choice in room selection was not available, not due to occupancy, but rather due to construction on the bar area where the Jr Suites are located. The construction added some noise by day, but it was fine as we were able to stay away from the noise by spending our beach time in front of the new building and had a walkway right to the beach from our room. The new room was immaculate, the furnishings nice and the bathroom roomy, too. Lots of storage. We got comfortable. Found it odd that there was no art work on the walls. Also the lighting was a bit off with no lamps in the sitting area. But we enjoyed our time in the room and having the balcony with a side opening really opened up the view. We missed having any entertainment available, but understand that having so few guests made it not feasible. We once again did the all inclusive option and it seemed like an especially good bet considering that it was pretty quiet every where. All our meals were delicious, service very nice and the drinks from the bar were fine. The options where plentiful and when our requests were not available at first they were accommodated once they knew what we requested. Our mid morning cappuccino on the beach was always enjoyed. We got to enjoy our walks along the beach each day. It was hot and humid, as expected, and the ac in the room worked fine. The fans in the dining area made our meals a pleasure. The service was good all around. The beach attendant set up our chairs each day. Our beach towels were replenished when needed. There seemed to be only a few rooms occupied, but the beach did seem to have some day tripper visitors which made it seem a bit more lively. There seemed to be more children on the beach and in the restaurant than we have seen before but that was fine as well. It was nice to see families enjoying the Inn. We stayed for six nights and spent most of our time on the beach. We spent a lot of time in the fabulous water. Never did get in the pool, but it is such a nice courtyard to walk through. We did take a glass bottom boat ride on Mike's boat along the coast where he maneuvered the boat into a cave which was a first to us. Always nice to see what is happening on the cliffs. Often we do a split trip with a few nights on the cliffs so it was nice to see everything from the water. We each got a foot message from the hut on property. We did have a drink at CoCo LaPalm and it seems like a great establishment. Also stopped for a drink at the Tree House which had a great staff. But for us, you just cannot beat the location of Charela Inn. The Inn paid for our return test for covid and it was a simple process over at a tent set up on CoCo LaPalm. Our arranged transport back to the airport was on time. We are pleased that we were able to have a get away after such a dark time during the pandemic. I hope that Jamaica can get access to vaccines for the residents so that they can all get back to a more normal way of life. We look forward to returning to Charela Inn to see the completed improvements to the facilities and to the times when there is entertainment available in Negril. We certainly missed hearing live music while there.

Where do I start? The trip was amazing! Thank you Charela for making this a truly perfect week! The staff was so attentive caring for our every need. The rooms, grounds and facilities were spotless! We had the meal plan and never wanted to eat any where else. Oh did I mention we were literally 50 steps from bed to water! Ask for S03...our suite complete with a spa bathroom with jacuzzi tub! As for Covid ,Jamaica is adhering to guidelines better than we do in the US. At the airport everything was streamlined and efficient. Charela arranged for our departure Covid test which was literally directly across the street! The results were emailed the same day. Don’t wait book that trip today! You will be so happy you did!
A special mention to Alice, Anassa, Sandra, Mr Grizzle and all who played a very important part of making this trip AMAZING. THANK YOU!

I spent 4 days at Charela Inn with my husband in February after a week in Treasure Beach. I’ve been to other small, locally owned hotels on the 7 mile beach, and Charela is unique in that it has a little French influence in the atmosphere and decor. The room was small but really cute, not super fancy, more like old school elegant. The beach area was nice and it’s in a perfect location on the 7 mile. Restaurant is a little more upscale than what we are used to but not outrageous, we ate breakfast there daily and 1 dinner, the food was excellent. They make their own bread which I hadn’t seen before in Negril. Service was amazing and Covid protocol is taken seriously, staff was always masked and sanitizer always available. We were able to take our Covid test to fly back to the Us across from Cocolapalm which is right next door and Charela covered the cost since we stayed 4 nights, so it was easy and convenient.
Also loved seeing the resort’s German Shepherd, Kush, hanging out on the beach during the day!
Great food / Great folks

We been to Charella Inn twice - both times we got the food all inclusive package - The food is amazing! Most is grown on their local farm and the chefs are top shelf. Grandville is the driver for the hotel and many times he would drive past places we should not have been and he would go into stores and make sure we wouldn't get taken by the locals - USE Grandville whenever he is available!! and be sure to tip well..We took another couple our 2nd visit and they loved it as well.. From Debbie our waitress to Marlene who does hair and massages, the Inn is our favorite place we have ever vacationed - period.
