Marginally pet-tolerant?

Avaliou em 10 de outubro de 2021

Consider this hotel if you are traveling solo and don't care if the air conditioner is really noisy. It proved to be a poor fit for our road trip with two labradoodles. While we encountered multiple problems, the biggest surprise was that there is no reasonable place on the hotel grounds to walk your dog. The hotel is surrounded by concrete and pavement (which obviously gets quite hot in Las Cruces), with decorative bushes set in very sharp gravel here and there. With parking lots for other businesses on both sides and a busy road out front, the only real possibility seemed to be a desert pathway behind the hotel. I tried taking our dogs to that. As we approached that spot through the back parking lot, I noticed a lot of trash and ugly weeds near the curb but was hopeful about the sand, in the shade of the building, beyond that unmaintained border. With my first step into that ugly mess, I realized I'd made a huge mistake. Our older doodle slammed on her brakes, while the younger one stayed by my side and immediately winced. We returned to the parking lot, and set about removing a very sharp, spiked burr from the younger one's front paw. We walked to the front desk to ask the obvious question. A manager there, after frantically re-donning the mask she'd taken off in violation of then-current hotel policy, rolled her eyes at me when I asked where we might walk the dogs. She assured me that the only area the hotel had was the unmaintained one we'd just visited. We found a dog park a few miles away and drove the dogs there. Las Cruces Dog Park proved to be a friendly place and a big help. This is the sixth multi-night stay on our Southwestern USA road trip, but the first in which "pet friendly" seems to mean so little. For a big extra fee, Home2 will put you in a room that it has largely given up on, at least as evidenced by the state of the carpet and the air conditioner. That's it. Every other place has, at the very least, enough maintained grounds to support taking an animal outside for a bit. Some have offered treats, and even dog pillows. Every other front desk team we've encountered, when they see two obviously friendly, fluffy white tail-wagging critters walk in, has been overtly pleasant and supportive. This is the first time in forty years of traveling that I've actually seen a front desk person roll her eyes at me. It was also pretty disappointing that Hilton's "digital key" story is a flop here. This would-be competitive advantage was among the reasons we selected Home2 from the many theoretically-pet-friendly options in Las Cruces. Here, you can check in and select a room online, but then the app tells you that you've still got to go to the front desk and produce an ID. I ended up asking for plastic keys, because that left me thinking phone-as-key might not work here, and it didn't. I really think Hilton should make it more clear that "Contactless Arrival" is not a thing at some locations. We have a few other hotel choices to make for the balance of this trip, but won't be picking Home2 again.

The staff was wonderful always accessible and available when needed. They had breakfast ready early which helped our day get going. They always had a pleasant attitude and answered any question we had.

Courteous staff! Easy on/off freeway! Newer hotel! Super clean! Comfy beds! Great breakfast! Best value for the buck in the area! Chris at front desk always greets us with a smile! They also allow fur babies with additional fee! Great place to stay!

This is not a 9.4 rated hotel…be aware!!

I selected this hotel because it had a 9.4 rating. I do not understand how it obtained this rating unless everything else in this area was really bad. This hotel was just plain disgusting. The carpets in our room were filthy and looked like they had not been cleaned…ever really. The carpets by the elevator were the same way. With everything going on with Covid I can’t believe this would be the standards and it wasn’t just that, the bathrooms were not clean and the breakfast was not good. I would understand if I paid less than 100.00 for this room but 200.00 for one night was not worth it and I didn’t feel safe at all. Super disappointed..be aware before you take that 9.4 rating at face value. It’s more like a 7.0!

Nice Gem in Las Cruces

Recently stayed overnight on a family roadtrip. Booked a 2Q room the day before. Room was large, clean, modern, well equipped with a big fridge and kitchenette. Didn’t get a chance to use all of the other amenities (pool, exercise equip, etc). Breakfast area was spacious as well. Good find, would def stay again!
