Disappointed this time

Avaliou em 2 de junho de 2022

I like staying in Marriott hotels because they are usually clean and they pay attention to details. The cost of the room is higher, but I found that it was worth it. I stayed at this Marriott two years ago and had an exceptional experience as I expected. This trip was disappointing. The front desk and cleaning employees were wonderful and pleasant. They were warm and welcoming. The management could use some pointers about the hospitality industry. Details were missing like the previous guest left a dirty coffee cup on the table in my room making me think what else wasn’t clean. There were a few details that set the Marriott apart from the other hotel chains and it was lacking this visit. The cold bottle of water upon arrival used to be a nice touch after traveling all day. It cost the hotel less than $1, but it is a nice detail to let a guest know they aren’t checking into a low budget hotel. I had to sign a form that basically said I wasn’t going to trash the place. They charged me $75 at the onset for my registered service animal for the night. I understand they may have guests that come there and destroy the place. I have stayed there before and they had no trouble with me. I would have liked to be given that courtesy. Like I said, the employees were welcoming. The details were not there this time for the money.

My least favorite Marriott

This property is owned by UD and doesn’t really operate as a Marriott. I received no recognition or benefits as a Bonvoy member. They turn off mobile check-in and most other Bonvoy benefits. Since the hotel is part of the Hospitality Management program at UD you would expect top-notch service but the hotel management is the worst I have ever experienced. I tried contacting both the manager and assistant multiple times and after many ignored emails and phone calls I gave up. I suppose they have enough guaranteed business from UD that they can ignore everyone else. The pool has been temporarily closed for over two years. They no longer provide any housekeeping during your stay. The Starbucks/Bistro is closed most of the time. On a more positive note the grounds were well kept, most of the property was very clean. The small restaurant and bar is only open at night but has great staff and food, although odd that a restaurant doesn’t serve coffee. Small fitness room was decent and open 24/7. If staying in Newark there is a better nearby Marriott Springhill Suites.

Cleaning

The rooms are only cleaned or serviced every 6 days!! When asked why the room had not been serviced, I was told that due to covid the rooms would only Be cleaned every 3 to 6 days. We only discovered this when we asked for the room to be serviced.

Going downhill

Having stayed multiple times at this location over the past several years, I was disappointed to have our experience this weekend. No status recognition whatsoever on this trip. And that was based on two separate reservation check-ins. No Titanium breakfast option or credit offered. When I asked about it, I was told by the polite, young desk clerk that they don’t participate in Marriott benefits. What???? First I’ve ever heard of that. Starbucks was “closed” due to “staffing”. Sorry but that’s complete bs. You can’t find part time help on a college campus? Come on now. No management in sight the entire weekend to be able to invoke the Marriott guarantee. No housekeeping service in between nights. Empty shampoo and body wash dispensers. There’s absolutely no reason to pay an inflated price for this hotel when there are several other Marriott brands nearby that you can get a much larger, more updated room for less money. Too bad as this was always our go to hotel. What a turn for the worse.

Pros and Cons

Avaliou em 22 de fevereiro de 2022

I have previously stayed at this hotel numerous times as our son attended the University of Delaware. My husband and I decided to take an overnight getaway. We have been travelling with our dog for the last year or so were pleasantly surprised to see that the hotel was pet friendly. The pros of our stay was our ground level room opened into a yard which was comfortable and perfect for dog working. However, there were several disappointments. When we pulled up to the entrance there was an overflowing trash can and a beer bottle sticking out of a planter. Someone's dirty sock was laying on the ground next to our patio. At 3:45am the fire alarm went off. After much disorganization and confusion it was determined that an element in the elevator shaft had burned out. The next morning this was never addressed or apologized for by management. At checkout, the front desk person was curt and dismissive. I will probably return but feel management should be paying a bit more attention to the details.
