Went for my birthday. Left feeling disappointed. We spent £79 on 3 mains, 2 soft drinks and a pint of beer. Potato comes with everything and I’m allergic to them. Trout was covered in pepper. Fair play they offered to give me barley risotto (which was the only option offered) with my trout but it was swimming in butter and an odd combination. Didn’t feel the meal was value for money at £23 a main, won’t be returning.

There are aspect that really require attention, the rooms do need some TLC. However, the lovely atmosphere, the friendly staff and the food, make up for any shortfalls. It’s dog friendly too which makes it even more appealing. Good shopping and great places to visit near by.

We stayed one night. The room was okay, very warm. We slept well. Comfy bed. It was unfortunately tired, the walls and interior needed a lick of paint there was marks from wear and tear, the bathroom was cheaply done. ( shower door didn't fit, toilet seat loose and the door didnt lock) The tea and coffee facilities were of standard. No biscuits. You had to pay extra for snacks. But on the other hand... The staff were pleasant and welcoming. We stayed for breakfast and paid extra it was delicious and plenty of it. The same with our meal the night before all fresh and tasty. I think if they gave the rooms some tlc it would be worth the price. I don't like to moan but it wasn't what we expected especially as it didn't match the photos on the homepage of the pub.

For our pre Christmas trip my friend and I stayed at the Carnarvon Arms for its proximity to Highclere Castle . It’s a very attractive little property made more so this time of year with Christmas decor 👏We stayed in “Best Mates,” a warm, nicely decorated twin room with comfy beds, large wet room with lovely soft towels and well stocked hospitality tray. Breakfast, served in the very pretty restaurant area, offered a choice of cereals, traditional cooked and Continental food, juices and hot drinks . We ate a nice dinner on our first night at a perfectly expected price , served by a very helpful barman. We would have appreciated an evening lighter bite offering on the menu for our second night while we enjoyed the Wednesday Quiz Night with the locals and staff . Overall a great property with plentiful parking in a gorgeous local area, decent room, good food and hospitality . We would recommend and hope to return next Spring .

Met for a Christmas lunch with friends on a Sunday. Excellent communication and pre-booking with Char who was very helpful. Accommodated our request for a longer booking and separate area. Lovely food and atmosphere. Great service from Josh and lovely, warm atmosphere. Thank you to the whole team. We travelled from Bath, London and the New Forest to meet and all had a lovely time. We’ll be back.
