Booked a room here online. I later called to see if they could add a second night, they could not. I asked them to cancel which they confirmed they would do. Turns out they did not cancel and I was charged. Called three times, manager never available. Left message for manager to contact me. Manager contacted me stating he would look into it. Filed BBB complaint, hotel stated I was charged because reservation was not canceled. Complained to Red Lion guest relations, they replied hotel is franchised and that there was nothing they could do except pass my complaint to them. Never heard from them.
Got an end room this time with plenty of space. Quiet and comfortable for short or longer stay. It is located conveniently to freeway 101, restaurants and stores. Friendly staff. Have been staying here when visiting Novato.
Would not recommend for business travel requiring reliable internet access
I appreciate the kind and patient staff, low price and the location of this motel. I don't require lots of frills when I'm traveling, and I really liked the little balcony that you get in the rooms. I would stay here if I was on a casual trip since I live on a budget. However, the wifi is spotty and cannot handle the capacity of the motel. If you are here on business you probably won't be able to reliably work from your room, unfortunately.
Comfortable and Affordable
The previous reviews on here must have been from before the hotel got new beds and some renovations done. My fiance suggested we book here due to his last couple stays where he noticed the conditions were improving yet it was still cheaper than most motel 6s around. He saw new AC/Heater units being installed in November and sure enough, they were free of dust and debris unlike at most hotels. That's a big deal for me because it shows they care about the air quality in the room - Who wants to inhale dust?? The lady at the front desk was very welcoming. We got room 209 and although it didn't have hardwood floors, the carpet was wet and smelled clean like it had just been steam cleaned. The bathroom had 4 regular sized towels that weren't quite large enough to completely wrap my hair, but much better than motel 6 towels! The best and most important part was the bed. To my surprise it was some type of memory foam, which made it difficult to get up in the morning because of how comfortable I was! I've slept in many, more expensive hotels due to work, and none of their beds or pillows were this supportive to where I actually woke up feeling refreshed and not sore in the morning! For reference, I provided a picture of my 6'1" fiance joyfully spread out on the bed after a long day of work. One negative thing about the hotel is its location next to a highway and railroad. I heard the train about 4 times, twice before bed and twice in the morning, but it wasn't loud enough to wake either one of us up and there were very little vibrations. The shower curtain rod was about to break off as well as the toilet paper holder. Another thing is all the trash in the parking lot. Maybe the maintenence man I saw sweeping didn't quite get to it yet, but it seems some guests don't have any respect and just leave alcohol bottles and fast food on the curb next to their cars to be blown all over. There is an ice machine that charges 25 cents. Breakfast consists of cereal, juices, and Costco muffins from 6-9am. Our room was right in front of the elevator but we never heard the coming and going of other guests, or our neighbors. The balcony was also a nice feature, although there is no smoking allowed, it was still pleasant to allow a breeze through the screen door and enjoy a cup of coffee. Overall, this hotel is pretty old, and it shows in the details, but at least there's an effort going on to beautify the place, which lately seems to be contributing to how quickly the rooms fill up. We had the best nights sleep we've gotten throughout our many business trips, and will definitely recommend this place every chance we get!
Where to even begin...
The place is a dump. It's dirty, the mattress is like a board, there's obvious sex trade occurring, they seem to have some homeless transition program participants living in the rooms and a guest was assaulted by another guest the 1 night we were there. When I tried to get my money refunded for the 2 prepaid nights they refused. I finally had to file a dispute with my credit card company.
