Shopping for a weekend getaway and these folks went all out to help. Amethyst and Kelli brought me maps, gave me directions, and even took me upstairs to see a room with a river view. Very nice, very helpful. Thanks. This place is high on my list!

Disappointing and overpriced

I booked this hotel to get points. Reserved it with my IHG credit card and Rewards # so they had that on file. I was not allowed to keep the charges on that card because I did not have it with me. This has never happened to me before. Typically they ask if you want the charges kept on the card on file. I was told it would be switched and of course, it was not. I am not pleased. Benefit to a Holiday Inn over a Holiday Inn Express? A restaurant. Oh, it was closed. I overpaid for this room. It is dated. When we saw the bed, we really wondered if it had been cleaned. Balcony has a nice view but don't look at the ceiling. Good river location.

This is the second time that we have stayed in this location, the first time about five years ago. The staff was so friendly and polite. Our room was quite clean, very comfortable (it was blazing hot outside), and the view from our balcony room (we requested one) was really nice. The first time we stayed here, we did not request the balcony but we still had a great view of the river. We did not eat in the restaurant area because of a late lunch but even if you want additional dining options for dinner or breakfast (there is no continental breakfast), the downtown is just a few blocks with a very easy and comfortable walk to some interesting restaurants and cafes. I can’t remember which site that I read it on, but a disgruntled guest mentioned that the area was “super sketchy” but unless you call groups of needle workers returning from a tour of the quilt museum a threat, you will probably be just fine. Lots of couples strolling down to the riverfront and taking photos. Someone also mentioned that parking was an issue but there was a large, well-lit parking lot available in the back and accessible off of the first level. Quite large enough to park a vehicle with boat or trailer. One other thing, something that really stands out is the respectful way that I noticed the staff working with each other. I could see them laughing and kidding with each other which I hope denotes an all around pleasant working atmosphere for them.

We were on a road trip and should have booked a hotel sooner. We had to park on the street because the lot was so small. The staff was rude and unhelpful. The elevator was one of the slowest I have been on in my life. The pool is so small that with just a few families the noise was unbearable for my kiddos. We paid twice what we normally pay for nice Marriott or Drury property and there was not even a continental breakfast. Do not stay here.

Some great food, strolls, artists collectives, contemporary Quilt Museum history, public art...you get the idea - something for everyone. Enjoyed our stay at The 1857 Hotel and The Freight House Restaurant was a home run.
