Good location in Palmerston North. Room was clean and comfy. Bed and pillows were comfortable. There is a basic kitchen area with a microwave and cutlery. Compact and functional. Friendly service. Would consider staying again. Price was reasonable.

Disappointed not to have a kitchen sink

We stayed here for 2 nights, and booked a mini studio which had a microwave, toaster and jug, plus plates, cups and silverware provided, but no kitchen sink to wash the dishes. I asked at the reception if they had some dishwashing liquid so we could use the bathroom sink to wash cutlery, and they advised we leave the used dishes for them to exchange for clean ones. This works only for their dishes but not if you have your own travel mugs or baby bottles etc. The location was excellent, walking distance to lots of shops and restaurants, and the people at reception were very friendly and welcoming, however, we found our room really small and wouldn't stay here again because of the lack of a proper sink to wash dishes.

What a lovely surprise. Exceptional cleanliness,comfort and staff are amazing. Home away from home. Had everything you need for a comfortable stay and so close ro supermarkets and town amenities and shops. You can literally walk to town 5mins. Highly recommend. I would definitely stay again.

Fitzherbert Castle Motel has very friendly staff, we were offered fruit and lolly’s on check-in at reception which was a nice and unusual touch. The motel is located in a very good location with food, supermarket and CBD all within easy walking distance. The only negative of being so close to the CBD and on a main street with single glazed windows was traffic noise particularly from vehicles with modified noisy exhausts. We stayed in room 2 on the ground floor, which was very clean. The room had very little natural light and a view of two garden sheds and tress. The motel is somewhat unusual in that the upstairs rooms are accessed via an internal hallway open at either end one end of which was right outside our room door which meant noisy guests were easily heard through the exterior door. The windows in the room only opened a little as they were fitted with security stays. If you are a light sleeper the combination of road noise, noise via the exterior door, the dreaded interconnecting room door meaning you can hear people in the room next door and shared plumbing may be an issue. The bed had had a very soft/spongy comfort top. At night time the light of exterior light is a good thing as the room is already fairly dark when it is daylight outside! Whilst the motel provides a dish cloth and tea towel, they don’t provide dish wash liquid. The motel provides a generous 27 GB of data per device per day. The motels carpark is a little on the tight side if you have a large vehicle.

Excellent value for money

We stayed on a Sunday night, so it was not busy and it was quiet. We had an executive king studio with spa bath. The bath was only small, but the room was clean and comfortable. Nice touch with the mini bar and snacks in the room. Excellent value for money and walking distance to the square. We'll definitely stay again if we are ever in Palmy!
