Warm and Welcoming
Our stay was for two nights at the Stanford Motor Inn. Not being familiar with Palo Alto, and needing to be close to Stanford, it was great that our reservation was booked by someone familiar with the location. We were warmly welcomed by Ashley. She wrote a list of nearby restaurants that we could either walk or drive to. Our room was cozy, efficient and clean and the grounds were clean with good parking and lighting. Complimentary newspapers are offered along with continental breakfast items. Beverages are also available in the front office until 10pm (coffee, tea, hot cocoa, etc) The evening desk clerk was Neil. So friendly and warm. Considering many people that stay here are attending the VA Hospital or Stanford Hospital, having such caring, warm and helpful staff makes it one step easier to get through the long days of tests. Being there in January (chilly), we didn't use the pool or enjoy the front patio. The main thing I wanted to write about here is how wonderful it felt to be in a genuinely warm environment geared toward the guest's comfort. We will be going back to the Stanford Motor Inn and would highly recommend this darling little gem to anyone that needs to travel to the area, on a budget and in need of a very warm welcome/experience.
2 Night Stay - Nice, clean room. Great People to work with
We had a 1 bedroom king room (135), top floor, up front next to El Camino Real. Very recently remodeled. This was our 3rd or 4th stay here. We stay there when I need to go to Stanford for medical visits. It is close to food (Driftwood Deli!) and very close to Stanford. A very easy drive. Our room was very clean, and even though it was next to the road, it was nice and quiet. It had everything you needed, a micro, refrig w/small freezer compartment and nice size bathroom with separate vanity area. One thing that was really great was the room had very good lighting! It is rare to find this these days in a lot of rooms. I cannot say enough about the people who own and operate the motel. I wish I had all their names. They are so wonderful and friendly and accomodating. Possibly the nicest people I have ever dealt with at motels/hotels. They have a lot of customers who are going to Stanford and they deal with them with compassion and caring. This is our go to place when we have to go to Stanford. I strongly recommend the Stanford Motor Inn!
AKA the "Jade Tree Motel" - Very Nice & Fairly Priced
We changed a rez from a much more expensive national brand hotel once we realized we would be driving and bringing our dog - and the Stanford Motor Inn is pet-friendly. The property is an older two-story U-shaped motel formed around a parking "U" which, in turn, encloses a pool area. While right on El Camino, our rooms were quiet and comfortable. As a gardener who has killed jade plants in both the desert and Seattle, I marveled at the assortment that, as I understand it, the owner's mother has cultivated. Accordingly, just one photo of the room and a bunch of the grounds. It's nice to stay in a family-owned and operated property. A lot of nice touches, such as full fluffy, resort-quality towels. The owners have also dressed up the courtyard walls with murals and other paintings. Really nice to be in a place that reflects such pride. I should also mention the Indo restaurant right next door. Great food and service and less than one minute away. If you're tired of the big chains and want to spend a night in a sweet family run motel close to Stanford, give it a try.
Tired and expensive motel
We stayed here for 3 nights while visiting in the area. Our visit clashed with the Stanford University graduation weekend so the tariff was high for a motel and alternative options limited. The complex is shabby and overdue for refurbishment. Our room was quiet with a good bed and adequate bathroom but had a very noisy air conditioning unit. Our room was not cleaned one day as the cleaner arrived so late in the afternoon, we sent her away. The breakfast offering in reception was very limited. The small swimming pool was OK but very deep at one end so not so suitable for children.
Much appreciated friendly service
I was in town because my mother had a stroke and was at Stanford medical. The room was amazingly comfortable and the staff extremely helpful and friendly. I hope to stay again during better circumstances.
