Not sure were to start the rooms were so dated marks on the walls curtains in hall ways were covered in stains. The hotel is opposite a somewhat dubious estate and all you can hear is people shouting especially on the Saturday night. The doors to the rooms look like they should be on antique Rd show and as they have no closures they bang. As we stepped out of the lift we were met with stripped walls and bare plaster. Are room was serviced of a fashion no clean towels bed covers just pulled up and the pillows were as we left them. The sink in the bathroom was so small in looked like it was for a borrower The shower was terrible and you could not cool it down. I know you get what you pay for but deer me this was terrible . The plus and there was only a few the location is great almost right in the centre very well placed for bars restaurants etc. The breakfast was ok not great the apple juice was terrible and the coffee well just avoid but the buffet was ok. The staff were very attentive and polite and helpful. Would certainly not return will spend a bit more definitely not recommend staying here.

just having a 3 night stay in this hotel the staff are excelent - however the rooms although clean are in need of some TLC - the TV is very small - the shower hardly works ( good job there is a bath as well - we took the breakfast option and wished we had'nt - it is buffet stile and a lot of the food had been in the hot cabinet to long - it's a shame as I have enjoyed my stay but would I come back - probably not

This is a restaurant review, Horatio’s Sunday dinner was great.

Looking for a place for Sunday roast dinner, then look no further, you can have one course for £12,95 per head this is a two meat roast (beef and lamb) with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, stuffing and gravy. It was also served with seven different vegetables, all freshly cooked and served piping hot. There is also a two or three course set price, I honestly didn’t have the room for the extra courses as the portion sizes are large, I think the locals think you need to be a member or a hotel guest to eat here, but the restaurant is open as to walk in customers. My waitress was Amy today, she was polite and well presented, and ensured we had everything we needed.

Four star facility, two stars for rooms

In low season the price is competitive with the usual budget chain hotels on entering the place feels quite grand with plenty of maritime memorabilia, staff are dressed up and it has plenty of facilities that a Premier Inn would never offer, a bar, a library and even a swimming pool which would be great if you are needing to pass time. The rooms are of a similar standard as a budget hotel and the standard rooms are aging, they are adequate for a short stay in cool weather but I'd not feel comfortable in summer on the lower floors, the windows would be relatively easily accessed from the road running past if opened to let air in and as the rooms heat up very quickly I'd reckon would be quite stuffy as carpets look quite old. Windows in bedroom are frosted so there isn't a view, but as it looks out over a housing block as well you wouldn't want it. The biggest issues are the bathrooms they are large enough and water ran from shower and taps well - it wasn't busy so not many using showers- and had a bath. Access into one though would be difficult if you need something to grab on to, to get out, toilet did not flush well on first go. And as the bedrooms are at ground level so is the bathroom, to use the extractor fans you need the light on, there aren't any blinds on the large windows just frosted glass and the shower curtain does not go fully around bath. If you want the window open you can see straight out onto the street. Like a lot of older coastal hotels as well as being different need to keep upgrading to keep up with or attract guests away from familiar brands. Or they quickly become tired and warn and cannot justify charging more. Around main road are high density housing blocks, but plenty of transport routes nearby including two train stations, bus station and cafes by the Naval Dockyard Rooms: low standard Hotel Facilities: High and unique.

Just come back from 3 night stay here on b&b basis. Excellent all round. Staff extremely friendly and helpful, breakfast great, had two lovely evening meals at the hotel. Room was very comfortable and warm, and everywhere very clean. Location is great for visiting the dockyard and museums. All in all, great value for money.
