Worst resort ever - VH Gran Ventana Resort. Zero star place

Avaliou em 18 de março de 2023

The worst place to stay. Had to change rooms 2x’s. First room was infested with roaches of all sizes. Second room had water fall from ceiling in the bathroom. Customer Service was lousy. No worker was happy to serve or be there. Beach dirty. No activities and quiet by 7 p.m. I thought I arrived at a spiritual retreat or a silence retreat. Food was disgusting and low quality. All inclusive meant buy your own coffee for $5 and get it yourself. Was sick for days due to the food. It was the worst experience. I will not ever visit this place or Puerto Plata. How they get a 5 star on the website, it must be set up because there is no way this place is a 5 star. Nightmare save your $.

Lovely place!

We are currently at the resort and loving our our time at the VH Gran Ventana! The resort is very quaint, nothing ostentatious. We love that it is a smaller resort, where everything is close by. It is an older resort, but very clean and comfortable. As many people have mentioned, the staff are LOVELY! We find the food to be plentiful, and flavourful. The buffet has many options including a pasta/pizza bar and grill station. Wings and fries at the adorable beachfront Ocean Grill are amazing and the Italian restaurant is phenomenal! The sangria here is yummy and the grouper is divine! Love the 10:00am yoga class with Linda, from NRG2GO. She is very knowledgeable about various yoga practices, a wonderful instructor and a lovely person! The beach is great, with a long stretch for walking. We feel very safe to do so. The rooms are older, but very clean. The beds are super comfy, and pillows are perfect. Sheets are immaculate and crisp. If I had one suggestion for the room, it would be to add a mirror in the main room so that one person could use it to get ready outside if the bathroom area. If I had one suggestion overall, it would be to have more information about the daily scheduled activities posted somewhere. I think a nightly dance hour would be fun too! To summarize, If you’re looking for something smaller, quaint, modest and comfortable, this is your place! If you’re looking for the Ritz, it is not;)

Second visit

Avaliou em 17 de março de 2023

Our first visit was in 2016 and we enjoyed it then. After pandemic, we decided to visit again and were no disappointed. Not much change in hotel, same restaurants, entertainment, and quality of service. Our concierge Jejeydy, not sure about correct spelling was very helpful in meeting our needs. We purchased with two week stay with Royal package which we recommend highly. The Vintage Club is very nice place to relax, have cappuccino or what ever international quality drink, have a conversation, play cards or what ever. Unfortunately, some guests can be little noisy with group laughs, but it can be tolerated. In order to get to restaurants, you must reserve early, especially for first or second seating. Menu does not change and that is little drawback. In restaurants they serve same wine as in buffet and it is not the best quality. You can purchase by bottle, but I did not recognize brands. For Royal package they should serve better wine inclusive. Assistant beverage manager (Carlos?) listened to our comments. Bartender at the Club remembered our "usual" drinks and was appreciated. Amar, the one of many servers was working very hard in the morning, lunch and dinner. Private beach was very clean, well served by attendants Jose, Lukas and others. In some cases the original architect made minor mistakes in design, especially in public washrooms. It could be remedied at the minor cost, if management decides to do it. Overall, hotel was very clean and maintained as such.

Great Visit for Our Family

Avaliou em 16 de março de 2023

My visit to VH Gran Ventana included myself, my wife and our two kids (3 and 1) and we spent a week there. Our day consisted of spending the morning at the beach and after lunch and nap, we spent the afternoon in the main pool. I must mention that the main pool has a section with a ramp-like slope which was great for the young kids. To start off, I want to say how great Marcos was for the excellent communication we had before my trip. I had to make a few requests as I was travelling with children, and he ensured all my requests were met and communicated that back, so I knew what to expect when showing up. Marcos also checked in with us every time we seen him to ensure everything was good. Once arriving to Dominican we found the transportation time to the resort to be a little long, an hour or so (due to construction and traffic). My family and I found the food good, and we always had options at the buffet, with items changing daily. Our favorite, by far, was the omelet station for breakfast and the pasta station for lunch/supper. Most days coming in we would typically see Rosa and she always had a smile on her face and my daughter always loved the fist bump. We received some great service from Felix every time we sat in his area and Xiomeris. I also want to say how great Francisco was with the kids while doing the cleaning every time we seen him. The only issues we had with the buffet were the highchair for the baby and the smoking area outside the entrance. We had a couple of meals where we did not receive a highchair which made those meals a challenge. My feedback is for the resort is to have them more accessible versus back in the kitchen where we rely on someone to get one for us. We only got the chance to try one of the a la carte (Octopus) and we found the food and service to be good. We were a bit disappointed about the process of making reservations because arriving on a Tuesday we were only able to get one time at the Octopus on Saturday. Obviously, being with young kids we wanted earlier times and that was hard to find. Sunday mornings is when they take reservations and while waiting in line, it was clear I was not going to get a reservation before I left for the other a la Cartes. Luckily, with young children the buffet just made our life a lot easier. Regarding our room, we had a great room on the ground level that was very spacious and a great set up for our family of four. Our room was in the Saona building and was on the corner between the pool area and the path to the beach. There was loud music most nights when putting the kids to bed, but it never seemed to bother them. It was great for my wife and I to sit outside and still feel like we were somewhat a part of what was going on. The beds were good, and we all slept well while there. Yes, two queen beds would have been much more comfortable but we made do. For people wondering about Wi-Fi, we had Wi-Fi in the room and never had any issues with it. For the bathroom, we always had toilet paper and warm water for the shower. We showered in the morning and before supper and never had issues. Please note that this resort does not have elevators so if you cannot handle the stairs, request ground floor. For the cleaning of our room, we did struggle with the timings of cleaning as we had a baby and toddler that needed naps. Some days our room was late getting cleaned and we didn’t get beverages restocked. On the first day my son needed his nap after lunch, so we put him down. Around 330 I approached the cleaner to ask for water (for my formula fed baby) and initially it seemed to be a big ask however she provided me with a good quantity. Luckily for this, the days I didn’t get my fridge restocked as my son was napping when they came around, we still had water. On other mornings the cleaning would be done earlier, and we had no issues. Overall, the timings didn’t work out great, but our room always got cleaned and we just missed a couple days of having our fridge stocked. For the pool, it was cleaned every morning and we found the temperature to be nice and refreshing. We did notice quickly that many people would put towels out first thing to reserve chairs and we had to follow suit to ensure we would have a shaded spot for our son. The beach was great. A suitable section for swimming but there are sections that are rocky so be aware of that. The rocky areas gave a great snorkeling spot without booking an excursion. The chairs were marked with towels very early as well, but we learned quickly that many people didn’t go to the right and we there for chairs a few times. We spent all our mornings at the beach as the afternoon typically became windier. The merchants on the beach were very respectful when we didn’t want to buy anything and with a simple no thank you, they moved on. We did take part in some of the entertainment in the evenings but often found 9pm was too late for our young ones so we missed the majority and because of that I feel as if I can't say much about the quality. One thing to note is that there are cruise visitors who visit daily. Some days there was a small number of people, others much larger groups of people. They do have their own spot on the beach, and I did witness a cruise guest being moved from the resort guest chairs to the cruise guest area. For lunch they do eat at the resort so you will see them throughout the buffet. My overall opinion of VH Gran Ventana is that it was great! It worked perfectly for our first resort and for our family of four. The staff were all friendly and treated us well. The cleanliness was good, and we always felt safe. Our kids had a blast between the beach and the pool, and they never seemed bored. The resort is older, so you do see normal cosmetic issues, etc. But we came in expecting that. This is not a huge resort, and it was not super busy so we felt like it was very enjoyable and would consider going back again in the future!

BEST Customer Service EVER

Avaliou em 16 de março de 2023

I am currently staying at the resort and had the best customer service experience ever and couldn't wait to get home to write about it. Before I do that, I would like to provide some general comments: FOOD - Although not top tier there are some amazing staples - the omelette bar is perfection, the late night snack bar is more than adequate, the drinks are good - nothing super fancy but they have a ton of options including diet coke and diet 7up. Jacqueline who is at the pool bar at the "quiet pool" was super great with my kids and has some special drinks. The a la carte was easy to book and not that complicated. The buffet turn over is decent and the options for fresh fruit are great. BEACH/POOLS: The beach is beautiful and the locals trying to sell their wares are very respectful and kind. Snorkelling is great - not mind blowing but my kids are loving it. The big pool gets a little crowded at peak hours but there is always the quiet pool. SMOKING: I know others have complained about this but I only noticed it twice and it wasn't cigarettes but cigars. WiFi: Again, others have complained but I think it is pretty decent - we have now staying on two ends of the resort and it works fine in both. GYM: great machines, nice on site support but the weights could use some updating. ACTIVITIES: The team here is great and they do what they can - this isn't a massive resort but they really engage folks and try to make it fun - from bingo to water aerobics. CUSTOMER SERVICE: It started with us only having hot water - very hot water in our shower. The service personnel took a while to get to us but once he did he said within 20 minutes it was broken and we should talk to reception about getting us another room. I did just that and left him to continue working. At reception, my first alternative for a room change in the same building was not ideal as it was the ground floor, which we were not keen on, as I am traveling alone with our kids. Anthony then offered a room on the other side of the resort that would be available later in the day. We went back to pack up and a few hours later - one hour before move time were informed that our shower had been fixed but we still had an option to stay or go. Of note, they also let us look at the room. We opted for a change of scenery. Here is the best part - through this four hour plus ordeal - Antony accommodated our needs and was respectful of my concerns; Johandria assured me someone would respond to the initial service call and when they didn't she followed up immediately (she also sent someone to look at the phone as it was't working and I didn't even ask for that - I only mentioned it because I couldn't call reception); Holifil went the extra mile by escorting us to our new room as I was having key issues; and, Albania smiled and told us to take the time we needed for the move. What impressed me the most of all these folks was how caring they were and understanding - while dealing with all the incoming guests and there were a lot. Last thing to share - I have met two families here who have been coming here every year for over 14 years and it is all because of the people - the staff here are amazing. They are the real stars here.
