Absolutely gutted when we visited here! It use to be such a lovely pub but has gone down hill massively. Staff were friendly when we arrived but they never came over to ask us if we wanted more drinks or if our food was ok. Items were missing off our starters, mains were ok and puddings we ordered were embarrassing, it looked they had run out of the cheesecake so cut one piece into three, and the chocolate Sunday we ordered looked awful. I would expect it maybe if it was a cheap pub but with the prices they charge we expected so much more, I can’t believe the chef or management thought it was acceptable to serve it. I’m gutted that I didn’t read reviews before going as I probably wouldn’t of gone. This use to be one of my favourite places to go and unfortunately won’t be returning which is such a shame.

Stayed over for 1 night, friendly staff, easy check in/out clean modern bedroom, lovely bathroom we had shower over bath friend's room was shower only. Coffee tea making facility with generous choice including biscuits. Pub does close quite early 10.30.

Tasty starters, main meals arrived wrong. Mixed grill arrived with no steak and 2 gammon. Also the 2nd meal was suppose to be a lean cut sirloin steak and yet it was so chewy that most of the meal ended up in tissue paper. It was more like ribeye. We complained and it was handled with great service. The bill was reduced and an offer to make it right next time we attend with 25% off. Considerate service and could clearly see errors were made. Will go back to experience the atmosphere again!

Real shame, lovely pub but terrible food

Such a shame, this is a beautiful restaurant in amazing surroundings and just been fully refurbished. Unfortunately, the staff are not welcoming (grumpy) and the food is terrible. The pub wasn’t busy and the car park was almost empty but on arrival (6.40pm) when we asked for a table the response was ‘there will be a wait on food’. Not a problem for us as we had planned to stay and have a few drinks. The starter arrived at the same time as the main and the chips were cold. The chicken burger was basically 2 southern fried chicken nuggets on a bun overloaded with sauce and plastic cheese. The burger was warm not hot which meant the cheese remained cold and ‘plastic’. So disappointed as this place could be lovely with the right Chef and right attitude of the staff. The coffee machine was switched on… but had alcafe (aldi) instant coffee at the side which was being used.

Disappointing birthday meal

Beautiful pub, lovely friendly staff but the food was awful… cheap frozen chips, over microwaved shrivelled up peas and scampi crapper than Aldi’s cheapest…£13.50…if I’d known it was a marstons wouldn’t even have gone in. Partner had steak and chips, the steak was good to be fair but again served with over dry frozen chips…wasn’t worth £21 I don’t know how marstons think they can keep serving up mediocre food… all that let’s them down
