Lovely weekend. M et Mme were friendly and very helpful. Would definitely return to this well appointed hotel. We had our small dog with us and they were happy to accommodate him. The hotel is perfectly placed to enjoy the restaurants and shops of St Pierre.

We loved the hotel. The location is awesome because you are a stones throw from a brilliant indoor food market (with a charming outdoor cafe nearby) and from the main pedestrian high street with a myriad of excellent shops and restaurants to suit varying budgets. We tried most of them! The breakfast in the hotel was a hit with the kids. We certainly kept the egg boiling machine busy! St Pierre is a great place to stay as it’s in the middle of the Island and really buzzy. On wet weather days the town was packed but we loved it because we had the pool. The games room was fab as we would have family tournaments. The staff were also really great. Our only tiny complaint would be that the acoustics in the main (old) building don’t allow for any noise. Our kids had to be super quiet or would get complained about - but that’s fine. We get that. That’s old buildings for you! We would highly recommend this clean, pretty and friendly hotel. It should have more stars but I believe that’s due to the lack of an evening restaurant maybe? I’m glad it doesn’t have one! There are so many in town. I really liked that it felt more like a B&B as it was so quiet there during the day. It felt like most people use it as a base and head out for day trips. We loved our lazy pool days. It felt like we had the place to ourselves! And we loved exploring the island on our bikes. Compared to Ré it’s not as “trendy” but for that reason I loved it. It’s so much more French! Hardly any Brits! Bliss!

Central location but tiny bedroom

The Square Hotel is ideally situated in St. Pierre- central in the town and central in the island. It's simple decor is in keeping with a holiday hotel on a holiday island but it is let down by very small bedrooms. There is no air conditioning or fridge provision and the bed is fairly basic. It has a small pool and sitting area but would do well to use up some of the open areas into expanding the size of bedrooms.

Delightful hotel de charme

Don't let the somewhat unprepossessing exterior put you off, as this is a very nice hotel with equally friendly staff. I was hoping to stay 2 nights but they only had availability for 1 night. Nonetheless, the owner rang around the other hotels on the island and was able to find me a room for the following night. 5 star service! The hotel has a nice fresh decor in the popular 'New England Coastal' style. My room (27) was spacious and clean and, being at the end of the corridor, nice and quiet. I was more than happy to make use of the excellent pool and sun loungers! Easy on-road parking directly outside the hotel, and just 5 minutes walk from the centre of St Pierre, which has a very good selection of shops and dining options.

Our first time to stay on Ile d'Oleron and we weren't disappointed. This hotel was perfect. Still not sure why it only has 2 stars. Absolutely nothing negative to say. Room 16 , classic double. Ample space, a walk in wardrobe, ample size bathroom full length mirror ( very important for the ladies and power points both in the bathroom next to the mirror and in the bedroom next to the full length miss or. Staff great. Polite, friendly and extremely helpful. Lovely swimming pool. Lots of internal spaces to sit and relax. Free parking outside front door and a stones throw walk from pedestrianized centre of town where there is a good choice of shops and restaurants. Ten minutes drive to port of La Cotiniere. Will definitely stay here again.
