Great location for sight seeing and restaurant hopping
Four of us stayed in a double suite for one night here so that we could walk to and from the start and finish line of the Alamo 13.1 race. The hotel is close to the River Walk, Hemisfair Park, La Villita Historic Arts Village, as well as many good restaurants. Our room had two double beds and a sitting area with a couch that pulled out to a full size bed. The hideabed is not comfortable for an adult but might be more appropriate for kids. There is a coffee maker, a microwave, and a refrigerator in the room. Breakfast is included but parking it not and will set you back $22 to park in their uncovered lot adjacent to the hotel. The hotel was a little pricey ($264 for the room plus $22 for parking), but it is in a good location for exploring downtown San Antonio.
Ahhhh! At last. A very clean room with NO mustiness OR perfumed odors! Just clean. A bed so comfortable I slept straight through and glad I set my alarm! Very friendly helpful front desk. Separate sitting room with additional TV. Great TV choices. Didn't try the breakfast- I bring my own. The room made up for the $23.. parking fee.
Ghetto and Unprofessional
Where do I begin? The front desk clerk was extremely rude and unprofessional. They tried to charged me $120 more than my Expedia receipt stated. When I asked to speak a manager the front desk clerk one wasn't available, putting on her lick, and said we can cancel your reservation. I had to speak to the manager over housekeeping to get some help. By far, this has the be the most horrible experience I've ever had at a hotel. Lastly, she was on her phone, talking loud, and went outside talking on her phone where everyone could here her conversation. When the Expedia customer service agent call the hotel she kept them on hold for 20 minutes while she walked around. Thanks to her I will never stay at a Marriot property ever again.
Great staff and location!
This is a little gem tucked away just blocks from the river. Halfway between Southtown and Riverwalk. If you are super lucky, Johnny will be working the front desk when you check in. He asked if we had been to San Antonio before (which we had not) and recommended several places to us. He is fun and friendly while completely professional. He needs to lead a class on customer service! Marriott, don't let this one get away. Our room was very clean and having the extra area with the couch was a nice touch. We hear there is a complimentary breakfast in the morning that we'll try tomorrow. I would absolutely stay here again in a heartbeat.
One of the WORST Marriott Hotels we have stay at!
We are Life Elite Marriott Members and stay in hotels 100+ nights a year. The Springhill Suites San Antonio Riverwalk was one of our worst experiences to date! When we arrived we were told our room wasn't ready and would we wait, "They are working on it and it will be 5 minutes". The front desk clerk was friendly and efficient-no problem with him. 5 minutes later our "Freshly Cleaned" room was ready. When we opened the door, it smelled like musky/mildew. The pillows were not like they are usually set and there were no decorative pillows. The sheets were not actually on the mattress so at this point we though they had given us the wrong room. We called down and they confirmed that that was indeed our room. Upon further inspection, the carpet had long hair on it and toe nail clippings. The bathroom had visible signs of not being cleaned in a while. The bathroom floor was sticky and there were brochures stuffed in the couch. We called and asked for a manager and they sent a housekeeping supervisor instead. We wound up getting a room change after we complained long enough. The Manager was on a phone call and not available. The Assistant Manager Enrique promised us 45,000 pts and a room change. The Second room.....just as bad as the first, but it included urine trails on the bathroom floor. With this we asked to check out. We asked to have the Manager call us, which never happened. To add insult to injury, when I called Marriott Elite, they told us that since the hotels are all now independently owned and operated that they could not relocate us to another property. The best they could do was to see what was available and we would have to pay the going rate. "Supervisor" Cathy even had the nerve to look at my account and say ..."well you have enough points, use them". We were on a WORK TRIP as I explained, and was not using my points. The only other Marriott rooms available in San Antonio started at +$400 since the Cattlemen's Convention and the Rodeo were in town, so we would have to pay an extra $250 over our original rate to get a room. Our other option was at the airport-6 miles away. Our reason for coming to San Antonio was to have dinner , enjoy the Riverwalk and spend the night. The almost 3+ plus hours we spent dealing with disgusting rooms, HORRIBLE customer service and finding a new place to stay within our budget RUINED our evening. Sadly, this hotel is in an excellent location - which is why we selected it. It has great potential that is lost to inept management.
