Best place we've stayed in all of Latin America
Avaliou em 8 de Fevereiro de 2020
Having traveled a lot in Latin America, we expect to pay a lot for an excellent place to stay and even then can find the lodging lacking in something. Kukurutz is affordable, beautiful, clean, creatively decorated and absolutely charming. The staff are warm, attentive and fun to interact with. People keep coming back here as we have learned speaking with other guests. It is understandable. The garden is lovely. There is art everywhere. The location is great, near the big city market. The grounds are safe and insulated from the street. A few rooms have beautiful views of the mountains. The owners feed street dogs during the day because they have such big hearts. They also participate in neutering them.
Perfect for traveling with pets.....or without

Our room was upstairs which was a little difficult as they didnt’ have anyone to help with bags.....but once we were there it was beautiful....so spacious and comfortable. I loved all the tiles that were everywhere.....I think I counted 12 different tiles! It was great for us traveling with a dog and a cat as we could walk our dog in the lovely garden and spacious for our cat to wander around too. I liked the location as it was close to several good restaurants and a easy walk to markets and the plaza. We didn’t stay long enough to cook but that is something we want to remedy by returning to stay on our return trip.

Both my wife and I loved our stay here. It's a lovely space that has been designed and built thoughtfully. Having a furnished apartment can have its advantages and we used the kitchen more than we thought we would. I liked reading on the couches. Our room was Max which I think is one of the smaller units but was more than large enough. There is a great wide view of both the garden and the hills, and it has a private deck. The "chocolate on the pillow" was so delicious that I ordered a box for my workmates back home. Staff are very nice.
Beautiful, serene, helpful and quality

Traveled with my dearest friend to Chiapas and stayed in #7 at Kuku for 7 nights. Laura Zuniga the manager/owner speaks impeccable English and went out of her way 24/7 to help in whatever way we needed. Our spacious 2nd floor rental has a huge gorgeous balcony with amazing views of the grounds, mountains, neighborhood, churches and daily storms. I highly recommend this rental. It's not on the busier streets but just a few blocks from anything you'd need-organic farmer market, delicious restaurants, shopping, and museums. If you love a real horseback ride contact Ranch Evergreen-its the real deal with a family that loves their animals and takes care of you-best part of our stay here. Meet "the man at the giant wooden cross at the central church at 9:30am daily, Cesar from Raul Travel, for a 1/2 day trip to Chamula to learn about one of the few remaining indigenous peoples in the area-he has the utmost respect for them and is more knowledgeable than any other. Enjoy and Viva Mexico!

Don't be deterred by the location north of centro near the Santo Domingo convent and market. We have just spent 9 days here, in apartment #4, and it was perfect. It's an easy stroll down to centro, or an inexpensive cab ride. From the ADO station on the far south of town, it will cost 30 pesos in a cab. If you plan to travel around by colectivo, they start/end their runs just north of Santo Domingo. The street where Kukurutz is located is well-lit at night, and even walking back around 9pm we felt safe. There are many local residents out walking as well. The apartment itself was exceptionally clean and attractively furnished. The kitchen was well stocked, although we missed having a kettle. Plenty of hot water, and modern appliances. The king-size bed was comfortable and had quality linens. Be forewarned that if you are travelling to San Cristobal in November and through the winter, it will be chilly. We didn't bother to light the fireplaces, but we did wear layers of clothing and invested in some nice wool slippers from the market! We would have liked to spend more time in the well-maintained garden, but it was quite cool and cloudy when we were there. The couple who manage Kukurutz are pleasant and very helpful. We give our strongest recommendation if you are looking for a spacious accomodation in San Cristobal.
