The Hotel Plaza Colonial was perfect for our 2 night visit to Campeche. Located only a few blocks from the main square, it was extremely clean, comfortable, and the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The hotel's location is perfect for exploring this lovely city. The baluarte walls, malecon, main plaza, and several good museums, are all within easy walking distance. We also walked all the way out to Fuerte de San Miguel (4km+-) and back, along the waterfront most of the way. Their museum was wonderful, as is the small Mayan one just behind the Governor's Palace in the square. There are many delightful restaurants in town, and a tiny pastry shop two doors down from the hotel that sells delicious sweet/savory filled treats. Two restaurants we'd recommend are: La Parilla Colonial Campeche and La Maria Cocina Peninsular.
Although the location of this AGING hotel is terrific - a block from the city square - it has seen better days! I stayed in room 203 which had VERY poor wifi. The view from the windows was lovely, but the hotel amenities were paltry and the service so-so.
Great location in the Historic district
We stayed in room 601 for three nights, top floor. Everything was fantastic however the bed was a little uncomfortable; too hard for our liking. The location was perfect for touring the historic district. The included breakfast is at another hotel close by. It was very tasty and service was very fast however the coffee is way too strong and not hot. The staff at this hotel are very pleasant and helpful. You will hear some road noise but that is to be expected when you are right in the middle of town. We had a spectacular view of the Cathedral from our room which was stunning at sunset. Everything was very clean and tidy. Pool was great too. Safe and secure on site parking was a big bonus. Nice size mini fridge to keep some refreshments. In room safe for any valuables. Really tasty and authentic restaurants within walking distance. I would likely stay here again but for the bed. Campeche is a stunning city and worth the visit.
Ideal for Us
This hotel was recently and completely renovated both inside and out. The colonial era building is extremely attractive--in fact one of the best looking I've seen. We stayed three nights and were completely satisfied. Our double room was very large, nicely appointed and spotless. Our friends' room was somewhat smaller but still of good size. The mattresses and linens were very comfortable. The large window has both light filtering and blackout draperies. Hot water was quick and abundant with good pressure. While not silent our 2nd floor room facing the side street caused us no problems with noise. Our interaction with the staff was minimal but always pleasant. It's located on a principal street (Calle 10) near the edge of the historic district. The main square and cathedral are about three blocks away. There is a very good variety of shopping and dining within easy walking distance. There is a good amount of free, secure parking and we always found a space. There is no restaurant on site but it is associated with the Plaza Hotel just a few doors down. Not knowing how many in our group of four would have breakfast I did not pay the small charge to include such with the room. Nonetheless I enjoyed breakfast my first morning and since then we've all visited. I HIGHLY recommend Norteno (scrambled eggs with dried beef)--DELICIOUS especially with a generous amount of salsa and spicy sauce on top! I asked to see the dinner menu during my first visit and was so pleased with the diverse menu that we ate there one night. All was excellent save one beef fillet that had to be returned twice--once far overcooked; next with ice crystals on one side. My fillet came OK--medium-rare when I ordered rare--something I've come to expect in any but the best restaurants that specialize in steak. Pricing gave great value at both the hotel and the restaurant. I fully recommend.
Great price and great location
Hotel offered a great price particularly since it is so close to the old city. It’s just a short walk to museums, shops and restaurants. Beds are very comfortable, rooms clean and all are non-smoking. The restaurant on site was excellent as well. Parking on site is a plus. Our room had a balcony overlooking the city and the old town. We would definitely stay here again.
