When affordable doesn't mean cheap!
I stayed here for 2 weeks and it felt like home. Everyone was cordial and extremely helpful. The gallo pinto for breakfast was always superb! I got a comfortable room with TV, cold and hot showers, closet space and the bed. It was fairly small but far from cramped up. I would definitely stay there again on my next business trip.
Did Housekeeping Forget to Clean Our Room?
While the owner was a lovely person, the beds were like cement and the bed sheets were dirty (smelled like someone had slept there). The sink faucet was filthy. So maybe the prior guests made it look like that hadn't used the room? Otherwise, the kitchenette was nice. Our bill had extra money charged. The owner told us we could help ourselves to the mini fridge. There were no prices listed. Since we had an almost ten hour bus ride from Puerto Viejo nothing was open. We didn't know there was an extra charge. We also missed breakfast (not hotel's fault) as we had to leave almost five hours before our flight.
Great place for long stays
Had to remain in San Jose for about a month. Besides your room Casa Echavarria is like a big home. You have access to the kitchen, there is a big fridge that paxs can share, you are able to use the dining room for regular work. There is a small cafeteria with sweets/deserts. Hotel personnel is extremely devoted to help passengers in resolving any need, inquiry or issue.
Good stay
After a long flight I was greeted by Karim at the airport as I requested a transfer which cost $35 to the hotel. I guess there are cheaper options but considering we sat in traffic for at least an hour I felt it's money well spent. Karim checked me in to my room which was clean and tidy and had cable tv and private shower/toilet. I got a room at the back as I thought it may be quieter than the front room. There is a soft seating area for those who'd like to talk to other guests and also information about tours. There's a kitchen should you wish to prepare your own meals and plenty of cheap restaurant close by if not. There's a couple of bars close too if you fancy a beer after zooming round San Jose. There's also an outside terrace should you just wish to enjoy watching the world go by whilst sipping on the excellent coffee that comes with this wonderful country. Good stay, great team, I look forward to coming back
Best Staff Ever!
This I more like a bed and breakfast that a hotel which was fine. Breakfast is included each morning, you can reserve a ride to and from the airport at an extra cost makes it convenient. It's located near two universities which is nice. There is a rolled ice cream place with in walking distance that we discovered when walking around. A pupusas place up the hill and Granny's Food Comida Afro-Caribeña food stand outside a convenience store. It's in the San Pedro area of San Jose about a 30 minute walk to downtown San Jose. One of the things I enjoyed the most was all the murals in San Pedro there are some downtown but not as much as you see here all in one location. I love urban art and couldn't take enough photos of the murals. I can't say enough about the staff everyone was so friendly and helpful. They made you feel right at home. Instead of taking a bus tour to the coast we opted to pay them and have a guided tour which was nice not having to stop and a number of hotels before heading out of town. Karim was our driver and guide for the day he was great! The tour package from them included a larger breakfast than our everyday and lunch ours was a cute place in Quebos called La Cocina Quebos. Where we had the traditional meal of Casados.
