I've stayed at the Torogoz dozens of times, sometimes for weeks. The property is two houses that are connected, the rooms are comfortable, bathrooms are separate and shared. Breakfasts and coffee are served, there's good internet, the location is convenient for a lot of San Salvador, near San Luis commercial centre and the National University. During the day there are normally one or two taxis outside. Staff are great and they'll help you with anything.

i stayed @ torogóz with a group during the election runoffs in feb'14. the rooms son modest but clean and adequate. the bathrooms are shared, but there are several and one never has to wait. the cafeteria always has a fresh pot of excellent coffee available. maybe the best of its attributes is its staff. they were friendly and helpful, ready to help with whatever issue might arise. and their vegetarian food - was undescribable. the patio is very cozy, and their meeting room comfortable. it's near the university, but located on a quiet, safe street.

This is not a luxury hotel, but it it is clean, the wifi is first rate, it's in a great neighborhood and the staff is extremely welcoming. They even made us an early breakfast when we had a 6 AM taxi to catch for the airport We'll be back!
Wonderful Stay, though I got REALLY Sick

Well, I would have loved my stay at El Torogoz with my girlfriend, except that I got sicker than I can ever remember being (not THEIR fault-- something I ate somewhere else), and my girlfriend and I decided to split up while staying there.
That said, the staff were totally wonderful, and came to check on me while I was sick, and when I felt better, they were coming into the room every day to make the bed, change towels, bring soap, etc. The AC was a nice touch, and the pool was wonderful too.
Totally safe neighbourhood with lots of restaurants around-- and not far from museums, city centre, etc. We walked everywhere, and found San Salvador to actually be a decent city. Easily the most interesting and safest (big city) between Guatemala and Panama, I found.
If I'm in San Salvador again, I'd definitely stay here.
Clean room, helpful and friendly staff, pet-friendly

We enjoyed our stay at El Torogoz very much. Lovely courtyard and pool. Our small dogs were welcome. The neighborhood is nice for walking, with several restaurants and bars to choose from. Our vehicle, with a roof rack full of things, could not fit under the entrance to their parking area. However, they have a 24-hour security guard who kept an eye on it while it was parked in the driveway. Highly recommended for a stay in San Salvador.
There was a bit of mis-communication regarding laundry. We asked if there was a self-service laundry in the area, and the housekeeper immediately took our clothes and said she would be happy to wash them. She hung them on the line and we collected them as they dried. On checkout, the proprietress charged $20 for this, which we thought was a bit much. We paid $10. Again, it was merely a matter of mis-communication.
