When booking we were told we would have 3 family rooms and then on arrival this was not the case. Ended up with a family, a double and 3 person room. Also the 3rd room wasn’t ready in time for check in. Rooms were ok, nothing special however my nan was not able to have a shower as she is disabled and they were not suitable for her. That night we went to the bar but was told there was only a limited selection of drinks, no drafts or soft drinks except j20 and bottled beer so ended up going back to the room. We had my nans dog with us also so asked if she would be able to attend breakfast in the morning and was told this wouldn’t be a problem. Also had to go to the Grand hotel for breakfast which we wasn’t informed at the time of booking. When arriving at the grand was told the dog wasn’t allowed in the restaurant so we didn’t end up eating breakfast even though we had payed for it. Have tried for the last few days to contact the hotel for a refund for breakfast but they keep saying they will get back to us and never do!
Royal Hotel About some who stay who make bad reviews
About some who stay who make bad reviews all the staff work so hard to make you stay a happy one. If you talk to the staff nicely you find that you get answer. All the bad photos you might see of the Royal Hotel may be done by some bad person who just what's make bad reviews two years saw this with my own eyes. Couple kicked door stop of the wall then took photos of it then laughed about it. When I got back home I had look at the reviews for the hotel and the couple had a bad review about the door stop and the photos he took. The Hotel staff work so hard put thing's right the some comes along and break it again just take that bad photo. The Royal Hotel is nice Hotel let's help all staff make the best Hotel in Scarborough. If you anyone breaking something and then taking photos tell one of the staff.
Enjoyed Our Stay
My friend and I stayed for 3 nights September 2019 and yes it is very old but we enjoyed the history and old world charm. Doesn't cost you an arm and a leg and found the staff only too eager to please, particularly as our initial room wasn't quite right. No questions asked they gave us another. Location spectacular as are the views.
My husband and I stayed in this hotel with a group of friends 3 weeks ago although some of our party had very nice rooms ours was filthy. Black skirting Boards curtain rail hanging off radiator stained and dusty and it was obvious under the bed had not been cleaned we found crisp packet sweet wrappers crisps TV remote hair clips half eaten biscuits. We have reported this to Britiania hotels but have had no reply The dining room and food was very poor
Following cancellation of holiday to Tunisia on 13/03/2020 just as boarding the plane- booked quick break to the Royal until 21/03/2020 after checking that they are open and advised yes they are. Upon arrival was told that the hotel was closing on 20/03/2020 so was only charged for the two night stay instead of three. Staff were advising that they had just found out that they would be made redundant as from Friday. Some of the staff were helpful and others not!!! . The food at meal times was of poor standard-starter: 1cm cut corned beef lettuce and coleslaw - supposed to be salad starter. Turkey and overcooked roasts for main and desert was cheesecake. Breakfast was full of apologies as items were forgotten to be placed out-like I said not to previous standards, so took the decision to leave today due to not enjoying the time at the Royal, when getting to reception advised was checking out and told to leave the key on the desk. Later this afternoon received telephone call to advise that the hotel was closing tomorrow and they could move my last day to the sister hotel -the grand- I then advised I was informed of thus yesterday and have checked out this morning instead of tomorrow-the person on the phone then said thought they would let me know so not locked in hotel when it closes tomorrow-I thanked them again for the call but reiterated that I was at home so no worries. Just best wishes to the staff who have lost their jobs
