Great food - fantastic beer - friendly welcome

The Stanley Arms was in walking distance of our holiday cottage. We were made to feel very welcome by the Landlord, his wife and the regulars in the bar. The menu was traditional but there was plenty of choice (even for my father!) and the portions were very generous. The food came promptly. was well cooked and the local guest ales were an excellent accompaniment.

We stopped here for some dinner whilst staying in a village nearby. When we arrived we were greeted by the owners, who were very friendly, as was everyone who was in the bar area. We had some top notch food and a couple of drinks. Yes the place could do with a renovation but don’t let this put you off, as someone else said, business owners are still trying to recover from COVID.

Why I give this hotel 5 stars
Avaliou em 26 de agosto de 2022
Okay let's start with the bad points and there was a few The weather was scorching and the rooms where boiling leaving the windows open didn't help especially as we was roadside and believe me the road is really busy at all times day and night. The number of lorries clanging along was also a noise nuisance. The rooms were small even though described as Premier doubles they were clean but seriously require refurbishing and at nigh on £100 a night The menu is very limited The area is in the middle of nowhere and little going on. My guess is you are wondering why I gave it 5 stars. Well it's simple the place needs to recover from Covid it isn't going to happen overnight but this despite my criticism is a wonderfully charming. The owners can't do enough. The staff care and I mean really care. The locals in the bar so helpful and real good eggs The menu although limited is the finest pub food I have ever had the pleasure to taste I recommend it all. Breakfast was fantastic The service from entering to leaving was immense. And last but not least our little pooch Charlie had the time of his life. Guys thank you. We will be back.

We stayed one night on way to Scotland. Family room was spacious and well arranged with high level of cleanliness. we arrived a few minutes before the kitchen closed but they were happy to serve us dinner. The hotel is well located with a nice water side beer garden

An enjoyable short break

Booked a 2 night stopover on a trip down Memory Lane. Lovely warm welcome, staff and owners fell over themselves to make us feel at home. Room had hot water to spare and wifi that really worked everywhere. Food was good, fresh and tasty. Large portions served hot and quickly. (Never had garlic mushrooms served that way - so good we had them twice!) Wide choice of beers and drinks to be enjoyed in a beer garden to die for. Every pub should have one of these! A really good find in a sometimes overlooked part of the country. Thank you Clive and Mel.
