My wife and I have returned to the Intercontinental Shanghai Ruijin for another weekend get away from across the river. I booked the a stay at the Club Intercontinental which has just recently been reopened. The club rooms are beautiful, clean and well maintained. The Club building is separate from the main hotel. For us, its exclusivity and service is what attracts us to stay here. While the club lounge is still closed, the amenities have been modified to accommodate the guest. They still have the happy hour, it's just that it is being served in the La Rue restaurant in the main building. Instead of the standard appetizers, this has been replaced by a set menu. Now I wasn't sure how this would be- but it turned out to be excellent. The chef has prepared a variety of dishes for the set menu and my wife and I felt that the choices were good and the food was excellent. Our server, May Zhang paid special attention to us and served us both nights- always helpful and has a great memory. She went well beyond standard service by getting us extra xiao long bao - a Shanghainese standard. Kim Powley, managing director, greeted us and went out of his way to accommodate a request that he surely didn't have to - thank you Kim. On the food and beverage side, the hard workers, Pascal Zhang and Cai, were also attentive during our breakfast time. The buffet has many selections and no one should come away disappointed. Well done La Rue restaurant. We hope to see you again in the near future.
A serene oasis in the middle of Shanghai!
BEAUTIFUL- the best way to describe this property! It is stunning, surrounded by gardens and perfect landscaping that makes it feel like a true oasis in the middle of bustling Shanghai. The property used to be the President's Guest Mansions where he would have his guests stay so the property itself is very spread out and the rooms are between a few different buildings. The location is also perfect! In the center of one of the nicests parts of Shanghai and easily accessible to all public transportation. Would HIGHLY recommend this hotel!
Charming Oasis in Shanghai
This is a wonderful hotel set in impressive gardens right in the centre of Shanghai. The staff offer a genuine welcome and you immediately feel you have arrived in an era of long forgotten charm and service. The room was comfortable and had all the amenities you need to feel comfortable and looked after. The service at the restaurant and the bar was exceptional and breakfast was ample and delicious. I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to everyone who would like peace and quiet in the centre of bustling Shanghai.
Good luxury Intercontinental option
Very unique luxury hotel. A vast compound with classic architecture and large outdoor space. Tried one of the restaurants but the food (Hainanese chicken) was not good (I'm usually not picky and easily satisfied). Elite benefits: no lounge access, was very lucky received a suite upgrade because no other rooms available at time of check-in. The suite was excellent. The internet did not work well. The temperature control actually works, which is surprisingly rare for hotels in Shanghai for some reason. Service from staff very good.
Most peaceful 5 star hotel
It was previously a government state guest house. Big and spacious garden. Buildings with French heritage design. Very quiet and peaceful. Very much like a private residence. Hotel is made up of high rise and independent villas and a few converted residences. Rooms in the Club Intercontinental block are spacious, clean. We stayed in a Club room overseeing a beautiful garden. A small but elegant Club Room with attentive staff. BF, high tea and Happy Hours are available here. A bigger restaurant in the main building serves a wider menu for BF. In our return visit, we were given bigger room on the 4th floor. But I would not recommend room on the 4th floor because of the small winders. Within walking distance to many food and beverage outlets. Tianzi Fang ( French Quarters ) included. Nearest Metro is about 15 mins walk away. Staff are very friendly but could improve their English communication. I will book this hotel again.
