Fine but overpriced

Avaliou em 16 de setembro de 2022

The room was nice enough and the bed was comfortable. The staff were fine too. A few gripes though… I paid £155 for a room (with no breakfast as this would have been £24 more). I was quite shocked by this as they advertise for £60 on Booking.com. When paying that much for a room I expect to be able to have a hot shower at least, however the shower was luke warm and the temperature control knob didn’t affect the temperature (up or down). I booked over the phone and it was not mentioned until I arrived that there would be an additional charge of £7 for 24 hours parking (making the stay £162). It didn’t trouble me, but it’s a bit of a stair-filled warren, so not the best if you have mobility issues. However it’s an old building so not a lot they can do about that. For the same money I would look elsewhere for a room. If the price had been better I would have given it more stars. As a side note my room (number 24) had a loft hatch and 5 vents in the ceiling. Something to be aware of if you have any kind of x-files phobia More

Fun Fawlty Towers Experience

Avaliou em 20 de agosto de 2022

The few staff that were there were very helpful. That gets the extra star over one star. But... We've been coming back to the Rutland every five years for twenty plus years. But this time, it's slipped so much as to be laughable, a real Fawlty Towers experience, which made it fun. Where to start? The room. Tiny, could only just get round bed. The toilet. Any fatty's going to have to hope for a bout of constipation, they won't be able to squeeze their bottom in over the loo. Policy seems to be one bath towel per double room, though they do provide a second if asked. Most of our party had minor maintenance niggles in their room- bulbs needing replacement, lights flickering, the like, which when reported to reception was met with giggles- and nothing happened. The bars were unstocked and closed, the only beer available were bottles of fizzy European lager, very cheerfully served though. The breakfast was a bowl of grapefruit, a few packeted cereals, some defrosting bread in a plastic bag to toast, and a greasy fry up with cheap near meat-free sausages. In the evening, for £30 a head, we got pizza slices with a thin coating of something red, some pasta again covered in something red, some green leaves, a brown chilli , rice and something fishy deep fried. Overall, it was a fun Fawlty Towers experience. But we'll be looking elsewhere next time for our large group

Ok hotel in an ok location

Avaliou em 12 de agosto de 2022

We stayed here as we were attending a wedding in the city. It was a good base to lay our head and shower. We needed taxis every time we wanted to head to the city as it was a bit too far to walk. Good location for Ecclesall Road with a walk taking 15 minutes. Botanical gardens around the corner. We didn't take the breakfast as we thought it was too expensive, especially when there's a Wetherspoons around the corner. The staff were always super friendly. The hotel could do with a little TLC to spruce it up, but otherwise it was nice. The bed was comfy. Shower good. I would return if the price was right, but would look at other options first.

Ok for a shoert stay. Disinterested staff.

We came here for our daughter's graduation and stayed here as it is very near the Uni. We were disppointed by little things, like one bath towel for a double room, one packet of biscuits on the tea tray, tinned tomatoes and cheap sausage for breakfast. Nothing major, but for 150 quid a night, felt a little more effort could have been made. No "hope you had a nice stay" as we left either.

Uninspiring, rough round the edges

Avaliou em 1 de agosto de 2022

The Rutland hotel is tired and shabby round the edges, and curiously the staircase up to the floor where my room was stank of urine. It is a shame, as the building and area is nice, although be aware that you may not get a parking spot and might have to park on the road like I did. The whole place could do with new carpets and a general refurbishment, apart from the bathroom which was satisfactory. The room was hot and the provided fan woefully inadequate to cool the room on a July evening. My main issue is that I left a phone charger behind, and realised as soon as I got home, where I sent an email requesting the hotel to post it back to me when they found it (I’d pay postage). This was at 11:13am on the day of checkout. They replied at 11:38am saying they’d get back to me when it was found, but I didn’t hear anything from them until I chased them up a couple of days later where they informed me they didn’t find anything. So it has obviously been taken by someone at the hotel. It’s not the end of the world, being just a charger, but there is obviously someone dishonest working there who is happy to pocket lost property, and having to chase up the hotel for lost property is also unacceptable. I wouldn’t rush back anytime soon.
