Very Hospitable Staff, Nice Hotel
I stayed here for a few nights while visiting a friend. It is in a good location near the main financial area and close to Minfa and the Paragon Shopping Center. There is also a great little Mexican restaurant nearby named "Tacos" that does not seem to be on TripAdvisor yet. I spent a few nights eating there as the food was delicious. The hotel staff didn't speak a lot of English but did well with their translation apps. Mary was so helpful when I was checking out, helping me to get a taxi for the short ride to the train station. She was great!
Good location but not up to standard
Hotel has a good location but that’s about it. We got a room on a high floor that was a bit rough around the edges and smelt of smoking. Advised by reception that the refurbished rooms on lower floors where noisy. Breakfast was bad and not really any western options. This hotel only good for one or two nights max
They're undergoing renovation when we visited and transferred us to the newly refurbished floors. Service is so-so but I like primarily the location. It is just walking distance to convenience store, restaurants, shopping center and night market.
Needs an upgrade, not a 4 star hotel, but adequate for 1 night
Only stayed one night but it was enough. The bed was hard, as if it didn't even have a mattress at all. Maybe it was just my room as others I stayed with didn't seem to have a problem. Room was a bit tired and the bathroom while adequate needed a spruce up. While it looks grand from the outside and boasts being a 4 star hotel, it is not up to that standard if rated by other 4 star hotels of western hotel chains. There is a Hilton across the road. However, it was cheap (under NZ$100), so if just passing through like me then it will do. Was on the 19th floor and was fairly quiet although the AC unit was quite noisy, I managed to work out how to stop it.
a most unusual experience
The hotel is an old establishment in Xiamen and in a fairly central area.I am sure it has seen its heydays. The bed smelled insecticide. The next morning, I asked them to replace the duvet and bed sheets, but it still stinked. It was then i realized that it was the mattress. A I didn't bother to change room, I put a blanket on top of the mattress and it got better. When we checked out, we were told that we have dirtied a face towel and we had to pay 20RMB for its replacement. When I asked what it was all about, the reception asked me to go back to my room to check it out with the housekeeper. The housekeeper said that the face towel had tea stink on it and could not be cleaned. She even asked me to wash it to prove her point. I went back to the reception and told them that I had not deliberately stink the face towel, and that the towels were all old, rugged and torn anyway. But they insisted that i have to pay for the replacement of the towel. They only let me go after I made it absolutely clear that I would not pay, and that I would tell everyone about this unpleasant experience. I am sure hotels would allow for wear and tear of towels. Why are they making guests to pay for these items is really beyond me. I would never go back to this hotel again.
