The Wonderful Ammos hotel

The Ammos hotel is situated among local Greek houses in Magazia, is 60 metres from a sandy beach and a 15 minute climb to Chora, the capital with the Rupert Brooke statue and castle. Chora is a hill village with lovely little individual shops and tavernas. The staff are super friendly and helpful. We had a lovely sea view room with a ceiling fan and aircon. There is a salt water swimming pool and a good restaurant . Tavernas are a walk away, many with amazing sea views. There is a small taverna in the path down to the beach which has a few daily dishes. It is easy to get vegetarian or vegan meals too. A walk away is Manos. You walk through little pathways past Greek houses and they send their way along the coast past tavernas to a pretty harbour with small fishing boats and lovely views to the hill village of Chora and the castle. Skyros is a place to go to escape. We didn’t hear one English voice all week. You can visit lovely potteries and in one you can arrange to go and see a herd of Skyrian horses. We visited Rupert Brooke’s grace ti plant a little olive tree to remember a friend whose ashes are scattered there. It is in an olive tree in the South which is uninhabited. You can take a boat trip along the West coast to the South to swim near caves, spend time on a wild beach on a small island and eat lunch onboard. We found prices very reasonable too. Breakfast at the hotel was a buffet with a great variety of things to eat including local specialities.

August family trip - low value for money

Very low value for money (265 EUR for a family room) Family room is small and doesn’t even have a table inside for kids to draw or play. Balcony with supposingly sea view is in between walls and with terraces blocking the view. Bathroom had a sewage smell. The shower door was getting jammed and wouldn’t close Breakfast is decent but with approx 50% of the items being sugary. Room had not mosquito nets (hotel claims it’s because of local building legislation) which forced us to sleep with windows closed as otherwise mosquitos were coming in. Room was accumulating a lot of heat during the day. On the last night we chose to sleep with open windows and around 1:30am a cockroach climbed on our bed and walked on my arm. After describing the incident upon check out, the hotel didn’t have the courtesy to offer a small compensation.

Very friendly people, great service! Room was exactly how we want a hotel room! Relaxing colors, clean, super comfortable bed… And what an amazing breakfast! Every day something different! Enjoyed everything ! Hi recommended if you want to visit Skyros! See you again in the future for sure!

Ammos hotel is divine! Neat, clean, modern, designed in Greek island style, with a lovely pool and a beach next to beach bar. The hotel is 3 minutes walk to a couple of nice local tavernas. And 5 minutes walk to Skyros town. The staff were warm and hospitable, and shared awesome tips with us. My younger boy said the breakfast was the best breakfast he had in his life - home made, cooked with local ingredients, healthy and with a great variety each day. Value for money I’d say. The only thing we regret is not staying longer. Thank you all for your hospitality. We’ll be back!

We're glad that we chose to stay at the Ammos. The owners and staff were very welcoming and helpful. Our room was very clean and nicely furbished. The pool was a very nice relaxing area to spend the sunny days. The breakfast was amazing and although we stayed in May and the restaurant was not fully opened, the Chef kindly cooked us a lovely meal of our request. My partner is coeliac and gluten free breakfast and meals were specially prepared for her. I would highly recommend staying at the Ammos to enhance your stay on the beautiful island of Skyros.
