MOST WONDERFUL STAY

My husband and I spent the most amazing time at Buccaneer Beach Club for 2 weeks in December. If you are looking for a small, clean, unpretentious little resort with fantastic service, look no further! The hotel is located right on the beautiful sandy beach of Dickenson Bay. It is a small and neat little place that had everything we needed. The staff at this hotel were the most incredible humans on the earth! From the office ladies (Eulanda, Candacy and Shackera), to the gentlemen that made sure we had beach chairs and umbrellas set up on the beach every day (Oscar and Edwin), to the friendly quiet competent Manager Leonard, and the sweet cleaning ladies that I was practicing speaking Spanish with…nothing was too much for any of the staff at this resort. They were all friendly, smiling and eager to assist to make your time there amazing. It was a true testament to the warm Antiguan hospitality. I can’t say enough great things about these people. The hotel has only 16 rooms and 2 beachfront cottages nestled in a beautiful garden with a decent sized pool, and a gorgeous beach outside the gate. The beachfront cottages are 2 bedroom units, but the other rooms are only one bedroom units with a pull out sofa in the living room areas, if extra bedding is needed. All of the units also have full kitchens, if you want to prepare a meal to save some money on restaurants, and they all have private patios or balconies with 2 chairs and a table out there. There is even laundry facilities right onsite that you can utilize for your personal use. It cost $10 US to do a load of wash and dry. The staff supply you with laundry detergent, and you do your own thing. The hotel also has a small convenience store with a few alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages for sale, as well as other sundries that you may need. And First Choice supermarket is only a 5 minute drive away to stock up your kitchen if you need to. The Epicurean grocery store is a little further away, and it does have quite a larger selection of products, but be warned, prices are high. There are many restaurants within walking distance…Salt Plage right next door at Siboney Beach resort, Putters Bar and Grill which is a 3 minute walk on the road, Ana’s On the Beach which is a 4 minute walk up the beach, Casa Roots which is a 10 minute walk on the road in the opposite direction to Putters. If you need a taxi to take you anywhere, the ladies at the front desk can arrange for Levi to pick you up. Levi was an excellent and personable taxi driver. We used him numerous times. ROOMS: There are garden view and pool view rooms, and the 2 cottages are beachfront. We stayed in a pool view room (#8) on the second floor, and loved it. The rooms are not fancy, but they are very clean. The units are a decent size with a separate bedroom with a king bed, and a large bathroom. There are two tvs…one in the bedroom and one in the living room. There is a large couch in the living room area complete with chaise lounger. And a private balcony where we ate breakfast most mornings while listening to the birds singing, and actually feeding the birds right on our balcony. We would put out small pieces of bread on the banister, and the birds would fly down and eat them while we sat there and looked on. The kitchen is equipped with a stove, toaster oven, microwave, large fridge, coffee pot etc, and all the dishes, glasses, pots, pans and cutlery you would need. We made breakfast every morning in the kitchen, after a shopping trip to the grocery called First Choice supermarket that is 5 minutes away by car from the resort. We also picked up cold cut meat and bread, and made many sandwiches for lunch as well. GROUNDS: The grounds are kept immaculate with lots of beautiful plants and trees everywhere, and numerous birds eating from the bird feeders. It was a nice touch having the little signs everywhere indicating the names of the plants and trees. And the lizards that ran around everywhere were so adorable. We even saw 2 hermit crabs walking around the garden with the shells on their backs. The gardener obviously takes great pride in his work, as it shows on the grounds. My husband and I ate breakfast every morning on our balcony, and numerous birds would fly down so we could feed them each morning. We looked forward to this every day. There is also a pool with loungers on the property, but that area was empty most days, which was to be expected, when there is a beautiful beach just outside the gate. There is a sheltered area right next to the pool with a large table and chairs, and a communal BBQ that is available for use by any hotel guests. We used this BBQ on two nights to barbecue meat with roasted potatoes and corn on the cob. BEACH: The beach area is small in front of the Buccaneer, but it was beautiful with calm water, and we spent most of our days there all day, when we weren’t on a tour of the island. There is no fighting for beach chairs and umbrellas. Oscar and Edwin always had chairs and umbrellas set up on the beach by about 8:30am. Oscar could be seen on mornings raking the beach, and setting up stuff. That man never stopped working, and always had a smile on his face and, always with a cheerful greeting whenever he saw us. I have to mention the lady Marie who sets up her little shop right on the beach in front of the Buccaneer. Her items for sale are endless and great quality. I bought numerous beach bags for my family, swimsuit cover-ups and summer dresses from her. Her prices are fair, and she gives great deals if you are purchasing numerous items. Right off the beach area, there is the floating Kon Tiki bar. If you fancy a drink on there, all you need to do is wave from the beach, and they send a small boat to pick you up from shore. Most of the drinks on there are around $5 US. MISCELLANEOUS: A guy named Tony George walks the beach and passes right by Buccaneer hotel selling rides on horseback with Uprising Horseback Riding Stables, and also catamaran tours with Wadadli Cats. My husband and I did the horseback riding on the beach for an hour and a half, and it was very reasonable. The guide for the horseback riding was a sweet older gentleman (Sylvester), and he has been dealing with horses for over 40 years, and he was so patient with me as it was my first time. I would highly recommend using him, and the horses are just behind Buccaneer Beach hotel across the street, so very close by. We got some amazing beach shots with the horses. We also booked Blacki Warner to take us on a full day tour of the island to see Nelson’s Dockyard, Shirley Heights, Devils’s Bridge, Stingray City to swim with stingrays etc and I would highly recommend him as well. He picked us up right at Buccaneer and brought us back at the end of the day. He was funny and full of island knowledge, and the beers were flowing freely. We also did a private boat charter to tour the island by sea, and do snorkelling. Very highly recommend Cocovibes for this. Captain George and his right hand man Jaiden were an absolute treat, and the prices were the most reasonable of any of the private charters on the island. We did not eat at restaurants the entire 2 weeks we stayed in Antigua except Putters Bar and Grill on the first night. The prices there were not bad at all. However, we found all the restaurants on the island to be VERY expensive. Therefore, we found small local places like Roti King where we bought a few days worth of food to feast on, and it was very tasty and cheap. We also realized that at the First Choice grocery that was 5 minutes drive away, the deli section had cheap hot local food every lunchtime during the week, which cost between $10-15 US depending on what you chose. We bought quite a few meals there as well, and stored it in the fridge in our room and heated up on different days. Also, the most delicious jerk chicken ever was right on the beach next door to the Buccaneer, in the opposite direction to the Salt Plage restaurant. It was just a great local guy with a bbq on the beach, and we bought food there numerous times. I believe in supporting small local businesses, and especially when the food is scrumptious. In conclusion, if you are looking for a small intimate stay at a clean quaint little place on the beach, with the most warm and welcoming staff around, and numerous restaurants in walking distance, don’t hesitate to book Buccaneer Beach Club for your stay! You definitely won’t regret it! It is the most perfect spot, and in a location that can’t be beat for great beach, proximity to restaurants, horseback riding opportunities, floating bar, local jerk chicken bbq on the beach, and lovely Marie selling great clothes and souvenirs.

Beautiful garden, nice apartments, lovely staff

We stayed at Sybony Beach club last year and thought it was excellent but the prices had risen so much for 2023 we decided to look at Bucaneer Beach Club. A friend had recommended it and the reviews were good so we plumped for it and how glad we are we did. The apartments are spacious, well equipped , very clean with comfy beds and a very large bathroom. The pool is lovely and the garden well tended with bird feeders and lots of lovely lizards. The staff are efficient and pleasant, nothing too much trouble. A special mention for Oscar who sorts out the beach chairs, rakes the sand helps with the cleaning, he never stops. He such a lovely young man so helpful and charming. It’s doubtful we will go back to Antigua as we’ve seen all the sights walked the beach , swum the sea and eaten in all the restaurants but , if we did go back it would be to Bucaneer Beach Club. A first rate place.

Amazing management and staff at Buccaneer Beach Club, Antigua

After much planning and anticipation for a relaxing, beach side vacation, my husband and I got Covid after arriving at Buccaneer Beach Club in early December. Our unit made it easy to isolate from other guests and still get food and items we needed. Management and the office staff couldn't have been more understanding and accommodating. A special thank you to Leonard, Eulanda and Candace. ( Please forgive me if I spelled your names wrong.) The hotel is the perfect size. Units are spacious and clean. The pool and shared areas are very comfortable and quiet. Location on the beach was peaceful for catching some sun and easy to walk to a few restaurants or order takeout. What stands out about Antigua is the wonderful, kind and polite people who live and work there. We didn't get to go to any other places, but our friends did and they totally agreed that the residents of the island were very special. And the weather was PERFECT!!! Antigua is paradise even when you're not feeling your best!

Small hotel in gorgeous grounds right by the beach. No it doesn't have flashy facilities, restaurants, spas or entertainment but what it does have is the most amazing position and a quiet, relaxed vibe. The accommodation is self-catering in 16 1-bedroom suites in several attractive 2-story villas scattered in the gardens plus 2 detached 2-bedroom cottages right on the beach. Travelling as a 3-generation family of 7 the accommodation for us was perfect. We had 1 of the 2 beachfront cottages and 2 suites. All the accomodation was spacious with open plan lounge/kitchen which was very well equiped, the cottage included a washing machine and dryer, full oven and 2 ensuite bathrooms. The cottage also had a garden with large BBQ and a six-seater table and chairs (we managed to squeeze in the 7 of us) which meant we could all get together for a BBQ. The attractive pool is not large but was always quiet and very well kept by Stanley the pool man who was very helpful, as were all the staff. No restaurant on site but one on the beach right next to the hotel. Lovely peaceful beach has sunbeds/umbrellas for use of hotel guests. My daughter and her partner had visited Buccaneer Beach Club before and said it was special and special it is!
