Recommend for Lunch

Avaliou em 23 de março de 2023

A recommend for lunch. Lovely traditional style pub with a great menu & some seafood treats - lobster, scallops and fish. Plumped for the scallops & scampi - which were delicious!! Proper chips too! Great selection of drinks - lovely after a blast round Portpatrick & to Dunskey

Cozy pub

Was only in for some drinks ,warm cozy lounge ,Drinks a bit expensive .found it if you aren't a local you don't get a thank-you. Paid by card 3 times .guy behind bar held out machine and just walked away with no thank-you. Probably would give my custom elsewhere

So comfortable

Had a 2 night weekend break with the Hubby, stayed Sunday and Monday night in January 2023, we were lucky with the weather it was dry and not too cold considering. We stayed in Room 12 the biggest of the rooms with enough room for a settee there was plenty of room to just relax, two lovely windows look straight out across the bay, stunning, there was a very comfortable and large bed on which we slept like logs. A very modern bathroom with his and hers sinks, a P shade bath with waterfall shower. We enjoyed two nights and didn’t hear a soul, although it is above the bar so could well be a little noisier when busy. But seriously breakfast was served with a smile and nothing too much trouble, cereals, fruit, cooked items or croissants all with fresh toast, tea, coffee and fruit juice. Evening meals are a delight with plenty of choice from sausage and mash to specials such as pheasant (which was absolutely divine). The fire was on in the bar and the welcome at the Crown just as warm. Would go back in a heartbeat.

Good Spot

Had a good meal and a few drinks. Room was showing some signs of being 'elderly' (decor-wise), but certainly not in the places that mattered: bed was good, bathroom was refurbished very tastefully, big TV. Great views across the Irish Sea. Huge, excellent breakfast. Friendly and helpful owner. It was quiet on an early-weekday evening, but I'd guess there'd be a bit more noise on a Fri/Sat - to be expected in a pub hotel.

The Crown it’s not. :

The place not to visit. Visited here while in the area waiting to board the ferry at Cairnryan and was less than impressed. The bar keeper was very preoccupied with petting some dog behind the bar and even too busy to stop the locals smoking in the bar even when I was eating food here. Also all three of my fellow travellers mentioned the smell in the establishment as soon as you enter the door admittedly it smelled like Jays Fluid or Detol which is a bonus I suppose.
