A charming little family hotel. Very nice home. Very spacious and clean rooms. Small pool but very pleasant. A good breakfast. In short, only positive.A charming little family hotel. Very nice home. At 500 m the best restaurant in Khao Lak.

No reason to look for other accommodation, unless you want to overpay your seaside holiday in and around Khao Lak.The Retreat is your choice, a brand new small family hotel in a quiet garden 1km from the beach and 400m from the best restaurant in the area. For a small fee you can take a motorcycle, or a free bicycle. A taxi service by minivan can drive customers to and from the Phuket Airport, or elsewhere, at quite reasonable prices. All rooms both at ground floor and first floor overlook the superclean swimming pool with hydro massage corner. Rooms are airy, large and provided with everything you may need: silent aircon, minibar,tv set, mosquito net, wardrobe, comfortable queensize bed, bright lights, large rain shower separate from the toilet, balcony with chairs and table. Indoor and beach towels are changed daily. Huge breakfast is served around the swimming pool until 10 in the morning. The host and his staff are always there, helpful, smiling, and troubleshooting; and in the Covid-19 period we experienced their efforts to give us comfort and solutions to go back home at the right time.

This is not a hotel where you walk straight onto the main drag with lots of bars and restaurants or are surrounded by large resorts with many different pools, run by faceless staff, oh no and we loved it for that! Set inland, 4km from our previous hotel in the centre of Khao Lak town, it's a small hotel run by a family with Mr Aob the main contact. Rooms are simple, clean and lovely, with breakfast served in an area next to the small pool. Breakfast was limited choice, but good and even given a passion fruit straight from his garden to eat! Service with a smile and nothing was too much trouble. Organised a trip to Surin, airport transfers, beach bar recommendations (family and friends!) Free bikes to use and we made the most of cycling the short 1.8km to the beach and 600m to #1 TA restaurant Pam's (also recommended and separate review!) - cycling back at night down the lanes was magical! Overall a great stay with a different slant on being in Khao Lak, but for those who enjoy a bit more of an experience than laying by a pool all day! Great value, experience and we may go back!

The retreat is rather new, the rooms are spacious, bathroom with rainshower and very clean. Only negative point: The mattrasses are much too hard The whole staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast buffet ok, as much coffee as you want. Only 1,7 km from the beach, bikes for free, motorbike for rent. We liked it.

Exceptional for the price

This is a hidden gem. It's not til you step inside the property, surrounded by vegetation and abutting a little stream, that you can appreciate just how good it is for the price. You save because it is 1.7km from the beach BUT it is an easy and pretty bike ride to Khuk Khak beach and bikes are provided free of charge. Therr is 1 bike per guest too. The rooms are super clean, spacious and well laid out -all look onto the small but refreshing pool. Breakfast is delicious (just missing 'real' coffee) and the small bar offers beer. What stands out most is the beautiful family who run this and the exceptional service they offer. Truly nothing is too much trouble and they jump in and do things like check the bike tyres before you ride off etc etc. The lovely Pams restaurant is just 500m away and the bars/massages etc on Khuk Khak beach means you can just hang out in this little spot and chill out for a few days, which we happily did. Highly recommended.
