Great staff and good food!
Everything was great here except there were some loud families (children) that our employees didn't appreciate. Our employees work long hours and expect a quiet atmosphere in the hallways and rooms!!!
Beware - Nighttime Bridge Construction
There is a bridge being built in front of the hotel, literally right outside the windows of the front-facing rooms. It's not a problem until about 11pm when the construction occurs. That's when you'll hear the beeping of vehicles backing up, the sounds of pounding, and the crackling of welding. It goes on all while you're *sleeping*. Even with the fan running on high all night long, our sleep was very disrupted. And by the time we noticed this would be a problem, it was too late to change rooms and still get a decent night of sleep. Breakfast is advertised as 'made to order', but it is not. In fact, the only thing made to order is the usual make-it-yourself waffle station. Otherwise, it's the most basic of breakfast fare. Keep your expections low and you'll be satisfied, I guess.
A Pleasant and Surprising Stay
Tampa's La Quinta on Gandy turned out to be both a pleasant and surprising stay. They are very military friendly, hiring folks who have served, and sporting a parking spot right up front for Veterans! The room they initially put me in wound up having an issue that could not be fixed quickly, so they offered to move me. Albert, a Veteran, was running the place when I made known the problem, and he gave me a free upgrade to their fine jet-tub room. He knew I was recovering from a recent shoulder surgery, and figured perhaps some heated bubbles would help soothe some of my soreness away. I promptly purchased a small bottle of bubble bath after duty, and commenced to "soaking my troubles" away that night. Comfy beds, free breakfast, and a quick commute to MacDill make this hotel pleasant. The great people who work here make it surprising!
Okay for price, but uncomfortable bed
The check in process was the best part of the stay. The manager (perhaps owner?) was accommodating and pleasant. The interior is well maintained and I appreciated no pet fee, but unfortunately there was a pervasive mildew smell in room 217, as well as the bed was extremely hard. Neither of us could sleep at all due to how uncomfortable the bed was. When we were checking out we mentioned the smell and bed to the night attendant, but he didn’t offer any comment. Be aware there is a large construction project going on in the road in front of the hotel. There is also very limited parking, and guests were double parked last night. If you have a dog with you, there are limited options where to walk them. If you have a small dog or one who doesn’t need a long walk, you should be fine.
To much noise, staff did nothing about it all night, broken door chain staff did nothing, I have stayed at better places , for much less per night. A.C very noisy all night, checked out early to get home and get some rest.
