Beauty and great service
Avaliou em 30 de Agosto de 2021
Great place to stay, to experience the beauty of Arizona. The staff was very pleasant and accommodating and the facilities are lovely. Our first room had a musty, “off” odor, and we asked to change rooms, and were changed and even upgraded, no questions asked.
Most exceptionally, we got lost, while hiking some adjacent trails in the 103 degree heat. We were able to get a cell phone signal, called the desk, and 2 staff members located us, based on our description, and came to rescue us with a vehicle and cold water! Now THAT is service! All with a smile, and NO CHARGE.

Hold onto your horses- Tanque Verde Ranch is the best place to stay and play in the Sonoran desert! 1) Rooms: we stayed comfortably in a casita with two adults and three children, with separate bed area, living room, small kitchen table, and plenty of storage. Our room had vast picture window looking out on the desert landscape with wide life running by. We felt tucked away in a quiet area (room 26 if you’re interested). 2) Meals: we dined in the dining room the first night- I had fantastic jackfruit tacos, my husband had the salmon and risotto, kids had burgers, pozole and salad. Everything was excellent as was the service. (Please ignore prior posts with negative reviews due to COVID regulations- the restaurant is up and running and delicious). We went to the cowboy cook out the second night which had great singing entertainment, and delicious food. All three nights we spent a little time at the Doghouse Saloon during happy hour. Plenty of seating, a pool table, and great outdoor patio with some of the best views of the ranch into Saguaro National Park. 3) Activities: where to even start? The first night we went to the “Tales of the Tanque Verde” presentation and learned all about the ranch. We did 2 mountain biking excursions, our youngest two did the kids’ day camp and had plenty of time on horses, we did two nature presentations, archery, nature walks, swam in the pool, and I had a massage at the spa. All were excellent experiences.
I’m perplexed by some of the negative reviews on here. Perhaps we came at a less busy time than others? We had no problem signing up for the activities each evening for the next day, and no problems with issues due to understaffing which I saw mentioned several times in other reviews. Staff was polite and helpful, front desks staff was great! We will be back when we can spend a longer amount of time!
Wonderful time with family

We went with a large (60ish people) family reunion. Check-in was easy, and the shuttle picked us up from an airport hotel rather than the airport with no issues since that was when we could get flights.
The room was clean and well-appointed. I had a 2 queen, 1 twin room with my 15yo. One of the queens was in a separate room with a door, and my 15yo really appreciated not having to listen to me snore :) We were on Roadrunner Ridge, and the view was fantastic. The thermostat only went down to 68. The AC was working fine, but the thermostat would 't go down further. I asked them, and they brought me a fan, and that did the trick. There are no TV's in the room, but I didn't miss them and didn't miss yelling at the kids for spending the whole vacation glued to Cartoon Network.
The lunch and breakfast buffets were fine. Ordering off the menu took a while, but that may have been Covid hiring issues for the kitchen. The kitchen staff did really well with special diets and the special dessert that the family wrote into the contract. The food was tasty, and there was a kids' buffet for lunch and dinner, so you could get chicken nuggets to tide the kids over while you waited for your food.
I read some of the previous reviews about difficulty getting into activities and long lines to sign up for the activities. I tended to get there right at 6, so was one of the first most nights. But, the longest line I saw was 3 deep, and they were all from our group trying to decide what they wanted to do. When I checked back after dinner, there were very few activities that had filled up. The hardest to get into were the walking breakfast ride, the 7:45am ride, and Horsemanship.
My 15yo got into horsemanship the first day she was there and lope check the second with no problems. (Horsemanship is a strongly suggested prereq for lope check.) They did not pass lope check though. Another member of the family with horse experience says the check was tough. But, even if you can't lope, there are still plenty of walking ride options. My 23 and 25yos got into all the mountain biking they wanted.
They have maps and well-marked trails if you want to go without a big group,
The previous reviews about activities may have been as the ranch was ramping back up after Covid.
The staff was able to accommodate our family game events like cards, ping pong, and frisbee with no trouble.
About the only really annoying thing was that housekeeping only came if called. That was a covid thing, and hopefully will be changed soon.
When you see the part of the activity sheet about how much water to drink, DO NOT blow that off. There was rain while we were there and it "got down" to the mid 90's.
The Food is Just not Good

Activities were fun but booked up very quickly. We did not get into everything we wanted to do. Our room was very big, but had a very funky, almost septic smell. My biggest complaints was the food. The buffet was just not good. Won't be back. There are way too many other options.
Tanque Verde Ranch Needs Improvement

The lunch buffet was expensive and almost eatable. Tucson has many top notch restaurants. Tanque Verde Ranch is not one of them. They need to get their act together or it will be sad to see one of the few guest ranches go.
