The Hotel is very individual (in a good way). The room was very large, clean and comfortable with a large bed. The staff were helpful and friendly. The real stand-out was the food at the Brazz, the associated and attached restaurant. It's not cheap, but it was really exceptional value, both for our evening meal and breakfast.

This is an outstanding hotel with the friendliest of staff. A special mention to the Drawing Room (previously the Bow Bar) which has been refurbished to a high standard with wonderful music playing at a low level to enable a relaxing atmosphere and not to spoil conversation. It was lovely to meet the hotel cats Minstrel & Jester whose accommodation is in the entrance to the hotel. Cannot recommend this highly enough.

The Castle Suite was practically perfect - just the best place to get ready for and retreat to for my 50th birthday celebrations. The team were friendly and professional and the room was very well appointed and equipped. The only thing I think the my could work on is the tired bobbly old blanket at the bottom of the bed. I live in Taunton so this really was an indulgent treat but it wS fabulous in every way. Great breakfast in the morning. Thank you Ronan and your entire team! @tauntonfoodie

Inappropriate photographs on display

I attended the Castle at Taunton for a works meeting. I was shocked to see topless photographs of women hanging in the gents toilet. Think 1980's soft porn, and you wont be far wrong. In this day, I really do not feel this is appropriate. There were pictures of flowers in the ladies. The hotel is setting the standard that it is acceptable and I believe they are making themselves vicariously liable for any unwanted attention their female staff may receive. Female Castle staff take note. I emailed the hotel and received a response from the Front of House Manager. They are photographs taken by Lord Lichfield and were gifted to the hotel. It stated they were prized and that Lord Litchfield had also done Charles and Diana's wedding, I assume they were not topless! I can accept that they are important to the Hotel, but surely put in a dedicated room and make visitors aware of what is on display. In our meeting we all agreed this is inappropriate. Time to move with the times Castle Hotel. My organisation will not be reattending and I would suggest you think twice before booking corporate events as they showed no interest in taking them down.

The architecture is impressive, The lift works even though the hotel predates electricity. The room was warm, well appointed, and the Wi-Fi worked perfectly. I enjoyed the tapestries on the walls and the kitty who was trying to murder the electric train as it went around. Good coffee and great full English breakfast too.
